Here's my semi-educated prospective guesstimate of what we may hear at the Aussie Big Day Out gigs in Jan/Feb:

Crystal, Regret, 60 mph, Atmosphere, Touched By The Hand Of God, BLT, True Faith, Temptation, LWTUA, Blue Monday

Perhaps a song or so too many but you never know..

Crystal is the ideal opener and has done well here for them so it's a safe bet. 60 mph will fill the new material quota and it's released here in two weeks so it's a given also.

Regret did well in Aus and has never been played live here.

Atmosphere could get a sub for Isolotion or Transmission, but they are likely to play more than one JD according to Hooky in a local interview.. LWTUA I reckon is a certainty because for years it was voted Best Song of Alltime by JJJ listeners and Hooky always came on the radio and said how amazed he was..

TBTHOG and TF are safe bets- when don't they play them anymore- and BLT I believe charted higher here than any other country.. Temptation is an obvious indie favourite here also.. And Blue Monday because it's Blue Monday.

So not much change expected really.. At least they won't have to screw around very much reprogramming their gear.

My Ideal World BDO Setlist:

Sunrise, Crystal, Thieves Like Us, True Faith Original, Dream Attack, Everything's Gone Green, Turn My Way, 5-8-6, New Dawn Fades, The Perfect Kiss Extended

Dream on.

Sadly, I'd have to agree entirely, although the front of the set looks decidedly weak so perhaps bolster it with a Ceremony or Transmission.

Boring boring Neworder (never though I'd hear meself say that, but, well, times change).

Maybe there will be a big surprise on these Australian dates, and they will play some different songs for a change ! Have to live in hope I suppose.....

Jarvis- you'd probably be in the know for this one:

No chance of Gill being part of the tour?

Oh, I'm sure she'll be around.. She. Always. Is.

Just I doubt she'll actually make it onto the stage!

I wouldn't be surprised if the BDO sets mirror the Area:One sets. They may have a file labeled "Festival Set Lists" to grab a copy of the US dates so they don't have to draw up a new list. It would be exciting if they added Primitive Notion. Shouldn't be too hard to do that one.

Crystal, Transmission, Regret, Ceremony, 60 Miles An Hour, Your Silent Face, Atmosphere, Close Range, Touched By The Hand Of God, Bizarre Love Triangle, True Faith, Temptation, Love Will Tear Us Apart, (Encore) Rock The Shack,
Blue Monday

This was the set list from a recent concert in Sweden. Now cut out TBTHOG, Close Range (one of my favs from the new album), Atmosphere and Transmission (the young crowd normally at the BDO would not get these JD songs at all!) Your silent face and True Faith might not be suitable for the yougins either. I believe they will do Rock the Shack as the song suits the festival crowd, and i could not see them not doing Blue Monday and Bizarre Love Triangle as they were very big in Oz (you still hear Bizarre Love Triangle in some nightclubs and bars!!!)

Your guestimate looks about right Simon.

Starting Mon 7th Jan, NO are rehearsing for a week to prepare for Oz & NZ. Given such a short time frame, I can only think that they must be brushing up on what they've played recently & the likelyhood of any surprise tracks seems remote.

Shame in some ways, but still it means your gauranteed to hear some classic NO tracks in a couple of weeks time.

Are there any Kiwi site members active on these forums? No need to be ashamed! You should be revelling in your Middle Earth glory..

Just after someone to post the setlist when they play the first BDO there..

Have to say it - I would be absolutely appalled if they played Disorder !! I just can't picture Barney singing that one at all. Some songs are best consigned to the memory, and that is one of them.

No BLT? no LWTUA (voted the greatest song ever on a 3J poll). To miss these songs would be to kill off their Oz following. I would not mind seeing a bit more of their ne album though

True Faith????? This is a timeless classic. This song still sounds new and fresh.

True Faith will definately appeal to a young audience, after all, it has the word "drug" in the chorus. ;)

Since when have they played songs because people want to hear them ?

True in some ways, in that they may not play the songs that we (the hardcore fans) want to hear.. But if you consider NewOrder playing a festival like the BDO or Area One then you have to agree that the audience predominantly want to hear Blue Monday, BLT, True Faith, et al. Most of them are either casual NO fans or just interested onlookers who want to hear something they recognise. Hence the predictable setlists.

Also, the band will further tinker with their song list according to location. Hooky said in a local interview here recently that because of the cult Australian popularity of Joy Division (ref the JJJ radio polls), and because JD songs have never (or close to it, someone can correct me here) been played live here, then the band are more likely to include a few in their shows.
