I've been looking for that song for years, and I just opened up the radio to set my alarm clock for tomorrow morning, and there it is playing...

STEPHAN EICHER - COMBIEN DE TEMPS

That is a complete True Faith ripoff. Oh, of course, it doesn't have exactly the same keys, but the sounds used and the general feel of the song suggests that New Order's golden leaf song was a huge influence on this one.

Here's the full clip available on this site: http://www.hosting-media.com/fr/virgin/eicher/video/smilrtsp/seicher_combien.ram

Listen to the sequenced bassline, and especially to that BASS DRUM !

Strangely enough, IT WAS RELEASED THE SAME YEAR (1987). So maybe it also suggests that the same set of keyboards/sequencers were used, with preprogrammed sounds that were "en vogue" at the time.

Oh, it's French, so no one in any civilized part of the world will have heard of it anyway. Hardly a threat. :D

Also, in the TRUE FAITH RIPOFF CATEGORY, there's also Peter Schilling's A Different Story, which is FAR more obvious :

RealAudio

New Order should have sued that guy! This is a blatant ripoff of copyrights !!! It was released in 1989, so the guy has no excuse.

Apart from the snare sound (not the bass drum) it sounds hardly anything like True Faith. Surely Kon Kan's "I Beg Your Pardon" snapped up the title of "Definitive True Faith Rip Off" years ago?

Agreed. That IS a blatant one. Where's John Denver's lawyers when you need them?

Yeah after listening to that Peter Schlling song again, that is some serious shit trying to copy another artists song, pretty much key by key, even the drums. Just reading about this Schilling as it happens, and he's no stranger to copying other people's songs, he had a hit covering Bowy's Major Tom, cheap...

Actually I think this Schilling guy was more trying to copy Alphaville... that French guy just uses the same drum machine, he can't sing and looks very stupid in the video, though it had a couple of good ideas, but gets totally ruined by the whole idiocy...

by any chance COMBIEN DE TEMPS means New order Ripoff? :\ohwell:

Wonder if Hague was on either of these twat's payrolls :skeptic:

To speak FOR Peter Schilling... his "Major Tom" has (musically) nothing to do with Bowie's... it was a huge it during the so-called "Neue Deutsche Welle" (New German Wave). Is the name of the Bowie-song you mention, really "Major Tom" (i can remember the "ground-control to major tom" - line but I'm not sure if the name of the track is "Major Tom" or not) ???

Well, I dont care that much about Stephane Eicher but he is not French, he is from Switzerland. Plus you should remember this video was produced by the end of the eighties. I am pretty sure you might find many of the videos you liked at this time of your youth very stupid now.

That Schilling one is just True Faith with another guy singing!!!:banghead:

The other one - actually sounds like he got The Other Two to pastiche themselves & do his backing track - weird:confused2:

lol, I'm usually pretty bad at identifying borrowed New Ordered elements in other songs, but this one was easy. Kinda catchy :P

While on the subject, can enyone remember a dance track from about 10 years ago that had the strings from YSF on it?

I remember hearing it a coupla times, once at a party, where it appeared moments after my suggestion of Blue Monday had been met with "New Order are shite, I'll never play them"....when I therefor heard said same NO being ripped of said DJ's decks, I had to be removed to another room ( mainly cos I stood there outnoising the decks singing the lyrics and doing melodicca noises over the rest of the offending track ( I can be a real prick when I try))

this video from this Swiss or French or whatever guy is way too gay for THIS queer... his rolling on the ground technique is beyond lame...

yeah, the song is derivative of TF, but I think there were actually MANY songs with the same sounds....too old to remember examples though,,,

*No, the most of them were way better than what we see today! The Smiths' I Started Something, Depeche Mode's Never Let Me Down Again, New Order's True Faith... Actually it's not the concept of this video which is stupid, and the photography just recalls OMD's Talking Loud And Clear so it can't be that bad... but there's definitely something wrong with the whole result, starting from his idiot face...

I don't see the similarity between I Beg Your Pardon (Rose Garden) and TF at all. Maybe there's a little similarity with BLT 12". I got their album, and I really shouldn't have.

I think there's more of a similarity with RED FLAG (around the time they released "Russian Radio" and "If I Ever").

Kon Kan and Red Flag-- wow. Those nutty Canadians... :D

It doesn't sound anything like TF to me other than the snare, I could only listen to about a minute of it though cos it's utter shite. Kon kans I beg your pardon wasn't too bad I thought though it does sound like BLT not TF.

Anyone noticed that the middle eight in the lightning seeds pure is exactly the same as love vigilantes?

Don't know the song your on about -I'm just here for solidarity, rest assured any of us (well me anyway) would have done the same - or worse - in the same situation:banghead:  Bloody stupid DJ :tank:

wow...i can't believe the schilling song is so close-sounding to NO. make me wonder who else he's copied besides them and bowie.

wow, 'different story' does sound like true faith, although i'd never really thought of it before!

however, to expand on an earlier post defending schilling: his song 'major tom (i'm coming home)' is an answer to bowie's 'space oddity' not a cover of it (different titles, anyway). they're not the same song, just the same story (rather than a 'different story'...), and they sound nothing alike. it happens to be one of my favorite '80s pop tunes. :D

Actually, I think the sequenced bassline of Different Story is absolutely identical to True Faith's.

How could Schilling get away with that ?

I wish I could ask New Order about that one...

Yes, it's exactly the same. I came across that song yesterday and I was thinking for hours from which NO song they stole that part.
