One more Jetstream rant.

25 years since Mr Curtis passed away and the new single by NEWorder happens to be Jetstream. Its been released with the most promotion I have ever seen for a NO single along with a video actually featuring the band. Also featuring Ana from the bloody Scissor Sistors.

I realise thay are trying to get a wider audience and trying to sell the album but it won't work because Scissor Sisters fans (in general) won't give a toss about NO and Jetstream isn't going to persuade them. In fact most of my friends who don't really like NO really liked Krafty but this has totally lost them! I don't know who the hell is going to like this song apart from the hardcore No lot. I have loved NO for years and have to buy each single. I really wish I didn't have to buy it but I will. At least Richard X has polished it slightly.

Anyway, sorry for going on but I'm just looking forward to the next single which if they have any sense will be Turn but probably won't. I just know that Ian is up there pissing himself at this ridiculous song.

Yeah i`ve had the thing with Krafty where i was really critical of it for ages but friends of mine who are usually ultra cynical of every band including New Order thought it was brilliant.One friend thinks everything New Order have done is shit but he thought Krafty was excellent

Yes, this topic is getting really tiresome. I would probably consider myself an equal fan of NO and JD, enjoying the heavy, dark stuff as much as the more naff, poppy stuff, depending on my mood. Jetstream is one of my favourite songs on the album and I can understand that some people wouldn't like it, but I've been very surprised by the vehement reaction it has provoked. Some people genuinely feel personally insulted by the mere fact that NO could write such a song, and it's obvious that quite a few people here had a genuine desire for this song to flop completely, just so they could say "told you so" - what a pathetic attitude. Even with NO songs in the past that I have disliked I would never wish for those songs to be hated by everybody. Everyone's entitled to like/dislike any NO song they wish, but to have this holier than thou attitude towards a song you don't like really pisses me off - almost this kind of attitude that a "true" NO fan would never like such a song, that there's a kind of NO fan ranking system and the ones at the top have more valid opinions than the rest. By all means don't like the song, but stop being so fucking precious about it. There, I've been wanting to get that off my chest for a while now, and I feel much better. Thank you.

Agreed. Some of you twats sound a lot like Cure fans who say that pop shit like "Friday I'm in Love" isn't a real Cure song, or that it is despicable just because it's light and poppy. So there. Suck it you wannabe Cure fans.

Actually, I think that there are quite a few of us that like the song (I think its very catchy and have said so on the board) but don't think its the right move to make it the 2nd single.

I think its funny how more people bitch about the release of Jetstream than Gillian leaving the band; that to me was a much bigger issue.

Ive had alot of time to myself,whilst at work with production being off,I thought it might be nice to get a little involved in this,quite excellent forum:D But I didn'nt start nearly half the j-e-t threads,but I sure as hell made some posts about it well It is El Terrible as our Mexican contingent would confirm.Here in Redcar we call it Wank.

That honour belongs to the Sub-culture 12" &/or State Of The Nation. I think some of the critcism of Jetstream isn't so much on musical merit but regarding additional help on the track by someone who's gender identity is open to speculation-to that end I think some of the criticism could be thinly-veiled homophobia, the type which appears when any form of PSB/NO collaboration occurs or is even speculated upon. If that's the case, some of you should be utterly ashamed of yourselves

The fundamental problem with the track is that electronic music exploded in the 90's. So when New Order came out of their semi-retirement they were no longer a cutting edge dance band and merely a relic.

Anybody who thinks that Jetstream is cutting edge electronic music on par with YSF, The Perfect Kiss, BLT, or anything off Technique needs to have their head examined.

New Order aren't interested in being a dance band any longer since by their own admission the technology has passed them by. Instead, of hiring some young guns and reprogramming the old tracks or getting some help on the new ones they put out Jetstream Lover.

Now there will be some Get Ready fans who insist Jetstream is on par with The Perfect Kiss or any of the other dance classics from the 80's but they'd be wrong.

Jetstream, as you say, is not cutting edge stuff...absolutely, i agree. But that doesn't mean is not a good (IMO) pop song.

I think you are right. New Order is no longer interested in being a cutting edge techno band. Which i'm happy for. They have created a mix of electronic and rock band, that nobody else does it like them, which is why i love NO.
