New Order - Joy Division cover album

why don't New Order release an album of all joy division tracks i think it'd be pretty cool to see what their slant on them songs now are. they always seem to come off really well live.

but still maybe they shouldn't?

An album of redone instrumentals with Ian's voice laid back onto it maybe, otherwise NO! Barney singing atmosphere is horrid.

It annoys when i heard people at they nyc say afterwards they were so happy they did joy divison covers. The are fuckin' joy division.

I heard that in initial talks for the movie "Control" NO wanted to do the soundtrack as instrumental versions of JD songs. That could be hot.

are they? technically yes i suppose but the whole JD thing revolves around Ian Doesnt it? its a different band, as for the "Cover" Album idea? if they need cash bad enough they might do it one day

I disagree, i dont think it revolved around ian. The lyrics yes, but i dont think he had that much to say in the music direction. You could also claim that hannet was a fifth member.

Of course, but I don't think it's a good idea... we already have the In Session CD with that wonderful version of Isolation and they've played quite some Joy Division songs in concerts which have been bootleged. Anyway they complained to Uncut about not getting involved at all for Control, so I don't know if there's really such a project as JD instrumentals for the soundtrack... would be another bad idea, JD songs need voice...

would be about as exciting as the Rolling Stones rerecording their early lps.....

what is the point?

why spend energy recording old songs when you could be writing new material?

i mean, hell, might as well advocate new order rerecord PC&L or Lowlife....

Oh and New Order ARE fucking Joy Division, you are only confused because they changed their name, had they, like hundreds of other bands who have lost a member in a nasty way, chosen not to do this, you would not even have asked the question. "Revolved around Ian" my arse!, that's in our eyes and in our minds because the dozey bugger topped himself....oooooooh mystery woooooooo ooooooooooooh. Reality: four beered up, stoned guys who had a great time making great tunes. One of them stops having a good time, and tops himself, the other three decide "that's a bit shite, it's all ruined. This isn't my version of events, it is theirs, albeit in my words, do not insult them, and do not insult Ian with this pseudo-deification. It's not gonna happen.

What would be good though is if they remade tracks of their own classics, would be interesting to see if Bernard could capture his old vocal style on songs like True Faith, Bizarre Love Traingle, or would it simply be similar to an In Session CD which basically resembles a live gig but without a crowd.

What they should do though is remake some of their classics, using new hardware, and Bernard re-recording the vocals, it would be great and very interesting to hear, real updated studio versions, similar to what they done to a few tracks on Substance (Confusion, Temptation, Sub-culture) but today in 2005.

Or maybe we could forget that and just wait for them to re-release their albums all digitally remastered.

Not quite so sure about your idea, might be good though, the reprogrammed version of confusion was rather good.

I've memtioned elsewhere in these hallowed fora, that I would very much like to hear a lot of their early stuff remixed.

Now let's be clear, I mean remix as in, put the multitrack back on the machine ( or bounce to digital if they MUST), bring the raw tracks back up on the console, and mix the track. I do NOT under any circumstances mean the accepted meaning of remix, ie, take a 2sec loop, repeat ad nauseum through resonant lpf, dump on top of some stillborn track lying around on your HD, "3,000 quid please" *cough*

I mean, imagine EGG or Hurt without that cavernous reverb on the drums.....Chemical Who?
