I've been holding my water on this tune until now, but here goes.
The ONLY conceivable complaint anyone could have about Jetstream is the utterly vacuous lyrics. The music is blissful, a real masterpiece of Barney's Perfect Pop. as for those lyrics, I have two words. Mr Disco. nuff said? he's havin a laugh.
As for Ana, and how it was done and why it was done, well it's all a bag of bollox, but she does sound great on the record and serves an interesting function live.......that of making Barney look talented. Besides I am sure they have totally corrupted her by now, she'll be an ulcer for her management goons in no time, mark my words.
And if you really want to bring the Old Order of Factory in to it, as I said on another post, none of the factory albums have any bad tracks at all, they were more innocent, less second guessed, more honest in some ways. They now have to deal with an A+R dept, and all the related music biz talent sapping suitscum having "great ideas", thing is if they could have actually great ideas about music they'd be musicians or producers rather than bluetooth borg. At Factory NO did what they liked, Wilson fired a few ideas at them now and then and generally got told to fuck off. That smothering layer simply did not exist, now it does. Mind you I have no doubt whatsoever that the Warner drones have never had to battle with a band like NO, I bet ( and hope) they all get ulcers......in memory of Rob Gretton who said he reckoned they'd just bought a whole load of trouble, it's a shame he isn't around to make things more difficult.
As long as they keep turning out good tunes, being real people and making life hard for their slavemasters, as long as they sabotage dvd tapings and start fights in green rooms, I don't mind the odd compromise, the odd crap track, or even the odd pisstake that got taken out of context and turned into a single and a contrived duet by some suit full of feck all. If they'd been with Warner's in 89 Mr Disco would be where Jetstream is now.
