Newbie from Los Angeles

Glad to be here, I've been listening to NO for 20 years now and been a fan all along.

I'm sure this may have been asked before, and sorry if it has, but, i was wondering when New Order will play in Los Angeles again? It's been about 10 years i think, and it IS pretty conspicuous to leave out such a big city. Or do they have some reason for playing all around L.A. but never IN L.A.

note: Coachella - 2-1/2 hours' drive out and into a desert furnace - is not considered L.A. thanks

hi welcome - maybe they'll come back when the nxt cd comes out in '06. i didn't get to see them in the US either this time around.

I was just thinking that you're lucky you phrased your question so well, I belive that comments on the subject "north american dates????????" have been known to provoke a fatal response around here :) They're playing like 110miles (Ireland, so 4 hrs MINIMUM) south of me in July and I can't even afford the feckin train never mid a ticket for the gig grrrrrrrrrr. Miserable bastards should be playing in my local leisure centre :)

In fairness even though the band didn't play LA I don't think Cal-based fans can say they've have been neglected considering two of the four US dates they played were Oakland and Coachella

well, for No.Cal.(sanFrisco etc.) Oakland is very close, actually just an urban extension of SFO.

But Southern Cal...well, there's 20,000,000 living from Santa Barbara to San Diego (8million in LA/Orange) and Coachella isn't only 2.5 hrs away. In L.A. one must count how difficult, hot, and time-consuming and absolutely crazy it is to drive considering the traffic, lousy roads, traffic, heat, plus just getting in and out of Coachella. Did i mention the traffic and the heat?

And LA has dozens of venues of ALL sizes for them to play in. After all, tears for fears, psychedelic furs, the fixx, berlin, gogos, etc.(none of whom are huge draws), are all playing here in the same 2week time-span.

Hopefully for the next cd.. til then... good times

Plenty of people (including myself) came from much further away than LA to see the Coachella and Oakland shows. We drove all day and all night and it was worth it. If you can't commit yourself to a 3 hour drive to the desert when you already live in LA, stop bitching.

um, it was like 60 degree's and absolutely gorgeous when newOrder played Coachella...i drove 11+hrs so don't start whining about 2+

REASON FOR ME RESPONDING YOU YOU TWICE IN A ROW = You are a f++king p@nsy @$$ for not wanting to brave the "traffic" + "heat" to see a band you've been a "fan" of for 20yrs.

the traffic in and out of Coachella was a piece of cake and the weather was absolutely gorgeous with the exception of about 3hrs mid-day Sunday, other than that, the crowd was great, the traffic was easy to handle and New Order were great.

The weather in Cochella was actually not that bad.

You're right, i did hear this year conditions were pretty good, even the organizers were congratulating themselves over it. I guess i was just speaking in general, from past reports of Coachel.

And i understand your 11hr. drive. I'm sure you prolly did it cuz you had to, or else you also may have asked the same question. It's all good, I go to las vegas to catch shows i couldn't catch at home, so i know what you mean.

Actually, I'm not the resident asshole, but I've taken plenty of tips from those who are. Here's an answer to your question: If you're too lazy to drive 3 hours to see New Order in the desert, then don't even bother asking for a more "convenient" place. I'd like them to literally play in my backyard as well, but it ain't gonna happen. Hold out hope for next year, if they decide to come back to the States at all. Just start kicking yourself now that you missed them when you did. That's what I did for years after I passed up the opportunity to drive 3 hours to see them in the desert in 2001.

Please re-read what i've written. I'm not against driving forever if it's worth it and there's no other option. I was just questioning why this time Coachel. over L.A. I go to Las Vegas (which is much more than 2x distance) regularly and will do so twice this summer for shows.

"Convenient.." ... to a huge market of their's, too. I'm sure, barring unknown factors, NO could potentially make more money in LA than in Coachel. It's also pretty dumb to imply that if i did make the drive, THEN i could ask for a convenient place? if so, that wouldn't make sense.

Tip: let someone else kick you. Don't be selfish with all the fun.

Simple answer to why they did Coachella rather than LA - someone else was promoting it, they didn't have to organise it all. All they had to do was agree a fee and turn up. Oakland was a Chems show that they hijacked! NY and Chicago were slightly different, they had to get them promoted rather than jumping on someone else's promotion. They are the only shows this year where that will be the case - all the others are festivals where there is no risk to the band in terms of promotion costs, only a guaranteed fee for taking part. Nice and easy.

At least I'm not alone in thinking that the twat protests too much. 3 hours...boo fucking hoo. Try flying in from England....

I drove 11 hours to Oakland, then made the 7 hour 'Cannonball Run' across California to Palm Springs (8 hours if you count the hour I slept on the side of the road). 2 days at Coachella, 12 hours home on Monday.

Worth the price of admission.

You were lucky. I lived for three months in a brown paper bag in a septic tank. I had to get up at six o'clock in the morning, clean the bag, eat a crust of stale bread, watch a New Order gig then go to work down t'mill for fourteen hours. When I got home, our Dad thrashed me to sleep with his belt!

Sheer luxury!!!! We used to dream of living in a septic tank, but that means I'd have to move to Sweet Home .....

Seriously though, I had to make the treks down to CA this time because I'm not taking any NO appearances in this country for granted anymore. That's also the reason I drove 13 hours straight overnight after leaving work, from Albany to Oakland in 1985, to see them, because I wasn't sure they would ever tour again.
