5 new singles in and 10 years on, how would your updated '(the rest of) NewOrder' look?

New Order were never really a band for regular b-sides (well beyond the 80s anyway) and with five new singles since Republic - Crystal, 60 Miles an Hour, Here To Stay, Krafty, Jetstream - we've been inundated with a host of new remixes. So 10 years on from the original '(the rest of) NewOrder', how would you update the tracklisting with any new mixes? Here's mine:

1. World (Perfecto edit)2. Someone Like You (Gabriel + Dresden 911 Vocal Mix)3. True Faith-87 (Shep Pettibone remix)4. Crystal (Lee Coombs remix)5. Touched by the Hand of Gold (Biff & Memphis remix)6. Ruined in a day (K-Klass remix)7. Krafty (Morel's Pink Noise Vocal)8. Here To Stay (Felix Da Housecat - Thee extended Glitz mix)9. Guilt Is A Useless Emotion (Mac Quayle Vocal Mix)10. Regret (Fire Island mix)

Once you cut out the dead wood like Van Helden's BLT, Howie B's AoC etc. and update it a little, it makes a cracking dance music CD I think :music:

I'd put the Slow N'Sabres remix of 'Regret' on there as well.

The first one was pretty poor, so i wouldn't waste there time releasing another

The Philip Steir mix of True Faith should be there.

Exactly. That was such a tawdry piece of shite that the sooner we erase the memory of it from our heads the better. Who needs to even be reminded of its existence?

Erm, sorry it's offended you so much  Opinion respected and all that but there are alot of New Order fans who enjoy at least some of the remixes. Granted there have been some awful howlers commissioned by the record labels over the years but in the absence of any proper bsides which the band seem to be refusing to do this time around, the mixes are a valid discussion point as anything. Disliking a remix because you don't like aspects of it is fine but disliking it simply because "it is a remix" is a bit silly don't you think? Especially as NO fans we are practically drowning in them (Probably a bad thing I know).

While there is loads of shite NO related mixes out there, the purpose of this thread is to nail down the really good ones and after 15-20 years of them appearing on NO releases I find it hard to believe there isn't at least a couple you like  The K-Klass mix of RIAD is top notch in my opinion, better than the original in some ways. Similarly the Fire Island mix of Regret and B&M mix of Touched by the Hand of God mix are really good examples of a NO track being improved upon, or re-interpreted in an interesting way.

This is weird since I looked at this thread then went to the news area of neworder.cc and there I find an anouncement that they will have all the "Best" remixes available at all digital download retailers on June 7th. Some of the remixes include The Perfect Kiss (live from The Perfect Kiss video, WIM (carabineri mix), Blue Monday88 (12" version). Can a complete release of all NO singles be far behind. :uhoh: let's keep our fingers crossed.

Well there's nothing much to cover: (the Rest of) covered at least 1987-1993 (the original remixes). The following period was not that profilic, but here's what I'd suggest (in no specific order, actually):

01. Crystal (3 am remix) 02. Someone Like You (Drezden & Gabriel 911 mix) 03. 60 Miles An Hour (remix) 04. True Faith 2001 (Stern remix) 05. Here To Stay (Da Cat remix) 06. Confusion '02 (Koma remix) 07. Krafty (remix) 08. Jetstream (hm... I haven't heard any remix yet) 09. Guilt Is A Useless Emotion (Mac Quale vocal remix)

  • an old original song remixed (like in the Rest of, but please better!):

10. Shellshock (now it's dead for most people, let's revive it)

Sorry I'm lazy to specify the remixes right now, but it gives you an idea.

Krafty (Glimmers 12' extended mix) True Faith (Morel's Pink Noise Mix) Beach Buggy Touched by the Hand of God (Biff & Memphis Remix) Someone Like You (Gabriel & Dresden Voco-tech Dub) Crystal (Creamer K Main Mix) Here to stay (Felix Da Housecat Remix) Confusion (Pump Panel Reconstruction mix)

Why does everyone here insist on considering it as a remix since it is in fact the original version, since it was recorded before the album version?:nono:

It's not the original version... the original version has not surfaced, but they had like 6 different versions before they asked Stuart Price to jump in. The Mac Quayle vocal MIX (not remix) was one of the take that we might have never seen without the US release...

Those with the WFTSC pre-promo had another take I guess, but it might be an earlier version of Stuart Price's version.

Why fleece the fans of more cash though with ANOTHER compilation full of tracks that most people already have?? I want a remix album full of tracks that I can't get hold of without paying a small fortune for them.

And in response to those that hate remixes - why?? Are you denying that New Order have ever been involved in the dance scene? And that aside... without decent remixes, a lot of New Order material since the early 90s would have been mediocre at best.

Bloody hell!! That's strange... :D I just suggested this thread for a laugh, I think some people mistook it for New Order actually releasing another (rest of), and now they are! (Well sort of, and in a digital format)

100% agree Tristan but it seems to be a running NOOL tradition amongst some members I.e. Post in a thread (or forum) you have no interest or like towards just to get a reaction from the people who are having a bit of banter about it. People who just post "their shite" (sic) are muppets  If you don't like something and have a reason for it then fair enough, but simply saying 'it's all shite' contributes fucking zilch, is boring and a waste of bandwidth!

Anyway back to the remix thread...

Nic, does anyone know if these "Best Remixes" just announced are going to be available as individual tracks in the music stores or only as an 'electronic' box-set? If so, any idea of the price? It is a bit disppointing, Warners should've taken the opportunity to release some stuff we don't already have; like the SLY Gabriel + Dresden mixes, the TF Eschreamer mixes, this "New Order Bunker" mix of Jetstream, and any other unreleased stuff. But that's record labels for you  reissue, repackage, and repackage again!

Looking at it from both angles, it'll be good for new fans who may not have the rarer CD singles but for a semi-old timer like myself :evil4: I managed to compile it in a couple of minutes in iTunes!

The sad truth is that (most) labels are not releasing records for the hardcore fans. There simply are not enough hardcore fans out there to generate enough revenue for a release mostly hardcare fans only would buy. That's why you will see several "Best Of" with BLT and TF etc., but not any "Forgotten Ones" with the rarities that few people listen to or know about.

Perhaps with the "downloadble tunes" we'll see more "for fans"-tracks available. Hopefully for free (but then the problem is the licensing deals restricting them to give away tracks for free...)
