what New order's problem with the Housemartins is??On my old substance vynil I can remember Barney saying at the end of a song(can't remember which,I need to get a new turntable:shrug: )"Fuckin Housemartins"with a slight snigger. Anybody know anything, as to why???..I've often wondered what prompted the Barnster to leave this on Substance,he obviously did'nt like them:nod: Has he ever spoke about it tho?

That summer they built a nest under the eaves and were shitting down the nice new uPVC's he'd had put in fairly recently. It was particularly bad because it was his bedroom window which was above the conservatory so he he couldn't reach to clean them very well, they also woke him early morning as they flew off to find some nice juicy flies for the young 'uns.

Well that clears that one up then...not!:D

I believe the song to be confusion. no idea what the problem was. although it might have something to do with the fact that the housemartins were one of the most popular bands in the country at the time, having had at least one number one, so maybe bernard just didnt rate them?

They were a bit fluffy weren't they.

The Housemartins were great. Especially songs like "The People Who Grinned Themselves to Death" and "Caravan of Love". Thier latter incarnation as The Beautiful South is ace as well. Fat Boy Slim, however (used to be in the Housemartins as well), does not rate that welll with me IMHO

Listened to the wrong albums, I bet

His current stuff is CRAP. He's in his 40's - old, fat and balding (sounds horribly familiar, eh?)

Get a copy of Better Living Through Chemistry. Note the sleeve idea stolen from Blue Monday (its a 3.5" floppy disk on the CD case).

Now listen to the first track. In completion. In a silent room, on a good sound system. Off fresh and clean vinyl or a new CD, if at all possible.

That CD was released in 1995, but some of the tracks are a LOT older, including that one. Probably from the same era we had NO on a beach with David Hasselhoff, or earlier. However, it doesn't sound it

The fact that FBS's record sales have indirectly kept the football club I love alive since 1999 is a side-matter. Better Living would be an amazing album no matter whos name was on the front and what record label printed it.

Don't forget Des Lynam's tenner on the door paying the bills down there;)

Wasn't there supposed to be a few different interpretations of what was actually said at the end of that Confusion? And wasn't it Steve's voice and not Barneys anyway?

Of course I also remember the Housemartins - they were kind of chirpy and jangly and Smiths-like. Sadly, they split cos they got harassed by The Sun and then some of them became the appallingly bland Beautiful South - who will probably never ever split up until they're all humming from their graves, the crappy old MOR duffers - and Beats International/Fatboy Slim - who also made some pretty wretched records. At least there's one 80s indie band that will in all probability NEVER reform. Are you listening, Stone Roses? :skeptic:

Or Jon Snow single handedly tripling sales of the club tie...

Or the infamous S-sized Sandtex-branded kit stretched across Jordans, eh... well Jordan basically. That helped sell possibly the worst looking replica shirt ever.....

The Roses will do what they gotta do...If that be reform then,at the very least, for me the gigs will be a pleasure.Even if they bring an album out that aint great(But it probably will be)you can never take away what they did:shades:Have faith mate, have faith :thumb:

Gotta disagree wi' you there chum - speaking as a Macc lad, the Roses were good in their time, but bloody overrated to fuck! Their first album was worth keeping, their second album worth breaking in half. Ditto the Mondays - first album was scuzzy and ace, second album was just demented, third breakthrough album was pre-Penthouse cabaret. Twisting my fucking melons man, my big fat arse!

The Roses should NOT reform, at the expense of pissing on their legacy. Somethings are just best left as they are. Too many bands feel the urge to get back together for unfinished business but end up just sounding like diluted supermarket jizz.

The roses first album is impossible to overate:shades: .....But back on subject. How many other bands has barney had a dig at???apart from Def Lepeoard in the TBTHOG video?

Back to the Housemartins (and seriously this time), they were obviously fans of Norder as they were standing at the back of the crowd when Norder played Hacienda in 1987. Paul Heaton wasn't there and I think it was the guy who replaced Hugh ' the arsonist' Whitaker on drums (has he been released yet?). But Stan and fat Norman were there. And I liked the Housemartins. :thumb:

I've always thought that at the end of confusion Barney says "Fucking hell Martin". Now know it is not.

It wasn't Def Leppard, it was actually Motley Crue. ;)

Don't believe me? Try and Google an image of the cover for the Motley Crue album "Girls Girls Girls" - it's a spitting image of the way New Order looked for their TBTHOG video. Infact, it's hilarious to relate that they probably modelled that cover image look on New Order, unaware that they (NO) were taking the piss out of THEM!.

maybe the Mondays will return???

THAT would rock....

I saw Ryder with Black Grape in Providence RI (rhode island, one of the 50 american states) and they could easily have scared any 'ghetto' american hiphop act back to their mommies house.... easily the roughest looking brit band i've ever seen... well, Mark E Smith is a bit frightening live when he is kicking at you with his boots front row and pissed... saw The Fall in Providence as well years ago...

anyway, would the Mondays EVER regroup??? would prefer that to some one lp losers like The Wanna Be Adored....

(p.s. was revenges 7 Reasons a dis on that song & band???)

Shaun Ryder and Bez appeared as the Happy Mondays at a gig in London (Get Loaded in the Park) last year. No other original members were there. The same band are doing a few gigs this year.

See http://www.getloadedinthepark.com for information.

I was at the Clapham Common gig - it was good to see the Ryder and Bez back on stage, but nobody expected them to set the world on fire and they didn't.

Shaun Ryder did a solo album a couple of years back - can't remember the name of it. Something about a fairground? I've got a copy somewhere - it's alright.

Indeed - it's "Fucking hell, Martin", not "Fucking Housemartins".

Question is - Martin who?

And Norm is an Brighton legend - he's got a bus named after him and everything...

Gaz Whelan was drumming with them too. They had to 'lease' the name off Paul Ryder as he didn't want to be associated with the event but still owns the copyright of 'Happy Mondays'.

"Fuckin' Hell Martin" it definitely is - as I thought it was. It's just that other voices were also speaking in the background at the same time and whatever they were saying that coincided with the word "hell" as uttered by one of the band, you could hear a "s" - so when that was superimposed on top of the "hell" it sounds like "hells martin" therefore easily misinterpreted as "housemartin"....

Actually, now we are not sure:confused2: Someone have a listen to the vynil soon and give their verdict:thumb: I would if I had a player:(

  Misheard noises ? This is how rumours start (I know, I start them). Cracking Housemartins tangent. Haven't played Substance for ages but always thought he said "Fookin' 'ell, Martin". You'd immediately think Hannett, but they'd separated long before the Confusion 87 remix. Wasn't there an engineer called Martin Johnson(?) credited a lot on the 80s output. (Sorry, can't be bothered to dig out all the 12 inches, but it rings a bell). Surely it was a bit of banter with him. He must have knocked over Otto Q at the end.

Silly billies! The Martin in question is NOT Hannett - and it's MICHAEL Johnson who engineers some NO songs - it's probably none other than Martin Moscrop of A Certain Ratio - a mate of the band as you can well imagine and not averse to the odd jam or two with various NO members. It's probably him in the studio joining in on all the noise and chatter and banging the odd cowbell (remember Si Fermi O Grido anyone?):shades:

I just listened to it a few times on headphones and i'm sure he says "fuckin' housemartins" then spits. Maybe in reference to their accapella singing?!!
