Angel Dust

Can anyone tell me what is said at the beginning and at the end of this song? or even if its in english cause it sure doesn't sound like it.

Hey, Ahmad, I thought it was some kind of sermon or prayers, very Arabic sounding. As a Malaysian, I've got a few Islamic friends and I'm quite familiar with a few Koran verses....and that begining from Angel Dust do sound like one of those...maybe NO recorded that from Turkey, Istanbul or somewhere...

Coming from an Arab background I'd say it is Arabic but not sure. I'll have a closer listen and try to work it out.

Correct - it's the last remaining wall of King Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem. The Romans knocked the rest of it over in AD 70, so many Jewish people pray at the wall as a place of reverence. Many also 'wail', as they mourn the loss of the great temple. The dude on "Angel Dust" is doing just that. So now you know. CTD

I was wondering what it was ever since I first heard it.

Something in the back of my mind tells me that it was sampled from an Ofra Haza record, but don't quote me on that.

Call me an empty Pringles tube, but I always thought that it was "I'm hungry I want some water", which doesn't make sense I know, but then again who said anything has to make sense ? Most/many of Barney's lyrics don't make sense :)

The voice is that of Dunya Yusin, a Lebanese mountain singer and the sample is taken from "The Human Voice in the World of Islam". Incidentally, the same song was sampled by Brian Eno and David Byrne in a previous piece.

A nod to John A. Frye for that reference.

Just asked a Lebanese geezer in my office, and he says it says(and he knows the track, being a fan).....

"I think you are a pig, you should be in a zoo"......

I speak Arabic and am Muslim but the intro doesn't sound Arabic although the finale does, this is why I brought up the question in the first place.

I will get my parents to listen to it. Their Arabic is better than mine as I was born and raised in Australia.
