All the 'alternative' and punk lot in my area used to call them 'Arse War'. Not that funny - but it got the point across. Class War is one of the singularly most ridiculous publications ever - I had conversations with members of Crass, Subhumans, Lost Cherees, Poison Girls and Conflict, who all criticised CW in some way - often as it advocated violence. And in case other members of NOOL don't know why I mention them, they all (the bands, that is) professed to be pacifists (and I'm sure they meant it).
I remember one sunny afternoon at Clapham Common when my brother and I were at a free festival. My brother, being a rather large chap (slightly bigger than me) and an avowed vegan and pacifist, was approached by an equally large skinhead selling Class War.
The skinhead handed him a copy of CW and started launching into a tirade about how the tactics of intimidation should be used against certain sectors of society. My brother looked him in the eye, ripped the paper (that he hadn't paid for) in half, handed it back to the guy and said, 'So, do you think intimidation has worked today? The guy looked at him, realised that if my brother didn't hit him (and he wouldn't have done) then perhaps I might, and hurriedly walked off without a word...
I would take anything that 'Class War' publishes with a very large pinch of salt.
