I've been listening to various New Order and Joy Division tribute albums today - eight of them in total.

The eighth one is definitely the best. More variety of tracks, bands, sounds, interpretations, etc... and the quality of the artists, the production, mastering and artwork is truly amazing. A year or so on, it's still a regular on my stereo.

It's called 'Community' (and it belongs to us...) :thumb:

This is simply because the album was done by true fans, nobody wanted to butcher the music of a band they worship ;)

You had better buy mine then, already have 12 New Order covers ready. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

i had community on the other day for the first time in a few months and i was thinking about how remarkable it is. not just the quality of the music, but the entire process coming together--the musicians, the production, artwork, distribution. quite an achievement!

when is the electronic/monaco/other two/revenge tribute album scheduled for pre-production? :evil4:

Well, there is one Electronic track on Community ;)

I'm affraid Community/2 will have to wait in 2007, but then people will have 20+ new songs to pick from...

I keep seenig one at one of our shops, called something like The Music Of Joy Division. Is it as crap as I suspect it is?

if it's the one with a big "E N D" on the cover with a picture of LA it's AWESOME! I wish I still had it, and it's impossible to find used though I haven't looked online

Ok I might have to have another look then.

Is this the one you saw Ron? It has Moby's version of New Dawn Fades and the Smashing Pumpkins (using a different band name) doing Isolation.

that's interesting - I didn't know about the SP link. that's my favourite track from the album. second is the great version of Interzone - which you're now going to tell me is by Kelly Clarkson really...?

Well, Isolation is by Billy Corgan under the name "StarChildren", however I don't know if the other pumpkins were involved in it... :confused2:

I love the internet, we find info on anything...

Motto "Be repetitious for nuisance's sake"

Members Billy Corgan

Occational Members Bob English Jimmy C. James Iha Kerry Brown Mark Rew Neil Jendon Cliff Fox Mary Magdaline

Band Information The StarChildren is a band that Billy Corgan used to release songs that didn't fit into the Smashing Pumpkins style. Using this band name Billy and others performed live 3 times. One was actually bootlegged, 6/18/94. Isolation was released on A Means to an End. Delsolutions of Candor was released on a 7" with some Catherine material. The band hasn't played together since 1994.

I downloaded it from Soulseeker.com yesterday. Its quite good. It captures the beauty of the melodies, as well as underlining how simple the songs are. True Faith works better than most for me, purely (as per the original) theres more layers and texture to the song. Well worth a listen just for an interesting interpretion.

I'm not sure if it was on any tribute LP, but the best cover version of a NO song IMHO is Leave me alone by Chappaquiddick Skyline. Oh, and of course Elegia - my own dismal attempt to get on the Community CD  CTB :bear:
