Just an after thought of the (why don't you like) Blue Monday thread, but why can't he? He has been instrumental in shaping dance music in the UK and across the world, but still can't dance!? In no way a dig at the great man of course, just seems a little strange....

So by your reasoning every dance DJ or band member should be an amazing dancer just because they make dance music? We live in an age where people don't even have to write music, be able to sing or even exist for that matter to have hit records. I prefer the days where Barney stood still and just played the music, but I guess that's what Prozac does in one's middle age.

Good point, particularly about the talents needed to 'have a hit record'... NO have talent, or rather, genius, oozing...and it really doesn't matter if he can dance or not, just an amusing anecdote for discussion...'Why Rock Gods Dance like your Dad'? And The Pet Shop Boys, totally different kettle of fish...but again, good point. Or to (sort of) paraphrase...why does he try to dance? :) Maybe it is the Prozac.....?
the real question is why barney can't sing live. does he need to practice? does he need to do vocal exercises? or are his vocals so cut and pasted on the records that it's hopeless?
that being said i think he sings quite well on electronic ecstasy. was it just the set listing or did he actually give a rat's ass as to what his vocals sounded like on the republic tour?

Just because Barney's dancing is different to what you usually expect from a frontman does not mean that it is not dancing. True - it is a unique style, but credit the man for doing it.
Besides, if you say he can't dance then it also means I can't dance

Judging from DVDs and live-footage floating around here, I think there are many more worse singers than Barney out there...

Although a simple bopping of the head would suffice, he does what he can when he's on stage, and it does get a reaction from the audience.
It would be cool of him to bust out those glowsticks-- as a homage to the folks at the Hacienda

Like i said before his dancing has made him much more endearing in the later years.
When i saw them in the nyc, i found myself mimicking some his moves.
However, i do feel like new order could just stand still. Genius does not need dance moves. Some bands can just pull it off. Far in few between.
He learned from the Ian Curtis School of Dance... that's why...

Also, what makes you think that Barney isn't a "good" dancer when he wants to be? Maybe he just enjoys dancing that way...I personally enjoy dancing more like Barney than someone graceful or classy, although I feel I could certainly give a decent go at the latter...
I think he can dance. He looked pretty cool on the first Top of the Pops appearance of Fine Time. Those where the days, everbody danced like Bez or Barney.

*They are fabulous singers in their own way... Ryder in his own fucked up way and Barney in his own can't give a fuck way... they have strong personality, while the most of the singers haven't even if they have better voices and can sing more in tune and everything... I guess the bloke out of Keane sings better than our Barney, but he's so boring while Barney's almost always exciting, so gimme Barney any day! And Shaun... I mean, I've heard very few songs kick starts as powerful as Twenty Four Hour Party People...
