You had to feel a bit sorry for her when she was singing the correct words and nicely in tune while Barney was shouting something completely different

Dawn must have the patience of a saint to perform with New Order. She would be perfectly entitled to give a few evil stares and scournful comments inbetween songs, to Barney, Hooky and Phil.

Glastonbury is the first time Ive seen Hooky have a shocker. His bass was all over the place, both with bum notes and tuned up incorrectly.

You weren't at Finsbury then three years ago? Don't rely on the DVD for memories - it's been post-produced to clean up the sound. 60 miles an hour was atrocious at Finsbury!

I have never seen or heard a gig where there hasn't been at least one bum note from Hooky. Not even in the early 80s. Whole songs in the wrong key, songs changing key part way through, a particularly weird Ceremony at Paradiso in 84 where he changes key just after Barney has changed his key to suit the one Hooky is playing.....the man's a legend. Forget Lovejoy, Hooky is the real legend!

At least Barney is singing the second line of the chorus now, he's managed to shorten his breather from the original four lines (as per the French TV debacle) to just the first line now.

Sorry, but I have to defend Barney in this case. Anyone heard the Glasto webcast of WFTSC? In this case it's good that the bass is a bit louder in the mix, so you can actually hear, note by note, what Hooky is playing. And that has absolutely nothing to do with music, let alone a bass line in the conventional sense. NOBODY can sing to that even in roughly a correct tune.

can somebody please fill me in on this pantomine horse thing because I havent a clue. I dont really have time searching through the site. Im having a really hetic week with a wedding to attend, and a death in the family(my 92 yr old uncle). Both are quite a bit of distance to travel too.

Dawn is a great backing singer and carries Barnie through a lot. I Like her intro to crystal, its a great opener and she sets the mood. She looked a bit miffed when Hooky kinda doubled up on her mic and "sang" like a drunken navvy. Was Hookys bass on a transmitter? If so, thats some range. His walk to the front of the crowd was a superb gesture. On the Panto Horse note, I reckon the band must regret it a bit. A good measure of its popularity is that it was never mentioned as a "highlight" by the media. If WIM had been dropped from the set and theyd finished with Blue Monday as planned, those BBC3 chaps wouldve been fawning all over them. Apart from WIM it was a good gig

I thought Hooky was appalling! Was he unable to tune his bass before Love will tear us apart? Were they really going to refuse to play it or was that a wierd joke?

I couldn't work out what was going on, they looked like they'd had a massive argument or something.

I was a bit worse for wear, but I'm convinced the crowd booed as they left the stage - can anyone confirm this?

Gutted, we were really looking forwards to seeing them. It was my first time and my girlfriend was so excited about them. At least they played BLT, although not the version she wanted apparantly.

Barney introduced Keith Allen on stage (dressed in a Matador costume) riding on top of a pantomime horse

Pantomime Horse : Picture yersel dogging a bird except it's yer head up the arse of the person in front and both of you are wearing a daft looking costume which is supposed to look like a horse.

Watched the live stream at about 6am here in Oz. Good connection, no cut-outs at all. I was amazed at the breakdown of camera shots (Barney 85%, Hooky 10%, Steve 3%, Dawn 1.5%, Phil .5%).

I thought it was an embarrassment, not as much as the fluffed lines at Hyde Park, but have our expectations become so low that we applaud a performance like that? The new songs sound rotten live I think.

As for the Panto horse, her vocals in Jetstream were just awful.

You're gonna have to point me in the direction of what-you-consider-to-be a 'good' New Order performance then?! Just so that we can compare notes. 511 or 316, perhaps? I think you'll find they'll have been overdubbed and edited to the band's tastes.

New Order have always been rather ramshackle live, when are people gonna realise that?!

If people expect NO to be so fooking note-perfect they(disappointed fans) should, to partly quote NO from Perfect Kiss "just stay at home playing with their pleasure zones" with the greatest hits on as further orgasm inducement in the background. After all, the bum notes and dodgy vocals prove that not EVERY part of their gigs comes out/off of a HDD/tape/sequencer/whatever. They are human, not mythical Olympian beings. They eat, drink, piss & fart as much as any of us do(maybe more so at times, depending on what's been on the menu in the past 24 hours!). End of rant.

What a joke. Anyone with any objectivity will admit it was a horrible performance. I know the insane fans who cannot admit new order EVER play poorly, and folks who were at the show investing in hours of mud, will not be able to admit it, but get serious. This was a sad day for new order.

I suppose after this, will be all the posts about how endearing and better new order are when they suck, and why this makes new order the best rock band ever, because they are so unpredictable. Like Joy Division, they have angelic highs but hellish lows.

I think Hook, who I love, missed more notes than hit em on the first three songs. Every time I thought maybe they were getting a footing, they would blow it somehow.

Which was really sad, because I was psyched they had Dawn Z there... she was the only one onstage with any talent that night. Surely not Ana... how did she get a singing gig???

This shambolic gig, and the downward trend lately, is just a sign to move along, seek spectacle from other sources for the immediate future. Aj Wells was right on so many levels. And wrong too. BOTTOM LINE: What really is there to chat about new order in the next few months? They are tired and are about to take time off themselves and prep the next lp, maybe. They made their money for 2005 and will not be making much news until 2006....

Anyway, this is my last post for awhile. Off to summer things and life and other bands. I am sure you are all crying the predicted tears of deepest pain at this news!

God, the last thing I want is an airbrushed version of New Order. I love them warts and all. It's just that the warts are getting bigger...

It's a fact... on 511, check it out, on Regret Hooky is changing his bass and you can actually hear the bass while he's doing it.

The DVD has been overdubbed to sound "perfect"... if that is possible.
