Master Tape for PCL-I smell an Ebay scam here

Just trolling thru Ebay again and I came across what's being promoted as a master tape for PCL that was sent to EMI Greece. They're doing it as a no reserve or "buy it now" for US$300. One thing raises my suspicions though;they mention the record or release date as August 17th, 1984 which is nowhere near the time it was released to the rest of the world. Are EMI really that backward getting things out to Greek punters or do I smell a real stinker of an Ebay scam going on? There could be some Greek NOOLers that could shed light on this perhaps.

Further info: Virgin Greece, not EMI Greece;Sept not Aug. Item No.4743420422 on Ebay, ends 2days,19hours. Still think it's a scam though(unless it's Tony doing shady stuff on the side thru a Greek associate!!).

I'm sure Greek masters showed up on Ebay about a year ago and were discussed at length on this forum. As I recall there were two, one with some mixes of "Thieves..." and the other with some mixes of "Blue Monday". And unless I'm mistaken the general consensus among NOOLers more knwledgeable than me about these things was that they were legit but not of that great value.

Knowing the rules of supply and demand, I must point out that the items sold on eBay were of that particular value.

This master-tape has gone. Good job, David :thumb:

And yes, I do think they are legit. It may be that some guy came over the old boxes of some studio/label in Greece that went bust. The seller has sold other masters as well.

These Greek masters that are popping up on eBay aren't that rare. They are two-channel masters, just like the ones that go to pressing plants. If these tapes were multi-track masters... Now that would be a rarity!

well by definition they ARE rare, how many do you think there are? probably only 10-20 were dubbed to send out to the various overseas licensees.

it has to be said though they are of limited interest since what's on them are straightforward 2 track stereo recordings as per any £5 cd of the album.

I am surprised they did a buy it now on them for a relatively modest amount after dealing with david previously, he no doubt would have paid far more.
