Reworked live tracks/Renewed enthusiasm?

The latest live offerings are sounding really good. The band seem to be playing sets more "true" to the originals. I noticied Transmission now has the the opening "hummm" and Blue Monday had some accompanying vox (if thats the right word). Although I still can't understand why the Blue Monday thunderclap is either non-existant or more like a bad fart.

Are the lads trying to be more professional? Can't be that. Have they been re-listening to the originals? Why do you think they have made these welcome changes?

The recording of Fucking Blue Monday from the Werchter recordings is ace, to my extreme surprise. The new sound effects are at least an attempt to inject new life into the old dog. I only wish Hooky's bass could retain that extremely twangy spaghetti-western tuning it did on the original recording.

Steve's drumming on Transmission is now almost as ramped-up and frantic as it was on Preston and LBD, up to his feverish chorus drumrolls. Barney sounds very much into it as compared to earlier performances.

I was surprised to hear that they were playing EGG again. I was stupefied when I listened and heard them hit it spot on.

Well I prefer to listen to completely reworked songs live. I can hear the originals on CDs. I'd like them to play songs as if they were composed yesterday, I mean very fresh. Imagine if they played Blue Monday the way BM '95 (Hardfloor remix) sounds like. That would a perfect example... But they don't. EGG sounded not even like it was performed in 82-84, but almost like on the original single. I don't know if it's bad or good. In case of EGG I'm just glad they brought it back to the set.

I agree with you re preference of reworked live songs, but when you listen to hundreds of New Order gigs it's nice to hear a little variation from time to time.

still a shame about true faith IMO. Some of you might even like that perfecto mix. This year it was changed very slightly, and for the better. But still, they should try and make it sound as close to the 87 version, bring back those drums, maybe next year.

There's been a lot of positives though, loved hearing Everything's Gone Green, and surprising sounding true to the original recording.
