SYDNEY GIG'S SUPPORT....

Found out last week Sydney's gig support is ARTHUR shakin' BAKER......Hey, has anyone seen him perform live? Or does he just spins disc in the background and have guest vocalists on stage? His latest disc is only a compilation of songs, NO's Confusion included...and his early 90's Backbeat Principle CD is very...err....dated & poppy... Anyway, since he's the support, does that mean we'll get to hear Thieves from NO on that night?

I have no idea who Arthur Baker is.

I guess my question is, is he worth watching or should a person be using that time to drink in the bar?

Arthur Baker is a American DJ who helped NO produce Confusion and Thieves Like Us. Not sure if he's done anything else with NO.

Can't say whether he's worth listen too as I haven't heard any of his music.

Arthur Baker has been supporting New Order also on 'all' (haha) their recent European gigs.

Some hour before New Order will appear, Arthur will be standing on stage (left side, somewhat at the back), behind his DJ-recordplayers-mixing desk. And he'll be mixing and playing a number of rather varied songs. Quite enjoyable, I must say, and it raises the spirits in a perfect way!!

I really liked it and was swinging already before NO even started!!!

The best part: you'll recognise some New Order sounds and songs in his mixing!!

I got a feeling our good friend Mr Baker might be supporting NO when he was announced for the BDO. Pity he playing at the BDO at the same time as the Gurg.

But due to artists equity in Australia there will have to be and Australian Act to support international acts, so which Oz Band will do the rounds with NO?

If you have seen the gurge often enough it just might be work dropping in to see Mr Baker

well ive seen them a few times, and no doubt i will again, so i might watch 1/2 of each set or something.

Did he remixed LWTUA??? Where can you find this? I thought SCOTT LITT remixed that song in the second JD compilation.....

Thanks for the suggestion but no thanks. In fact Men at Work are one of those Oz bands from the 80's that have not tried a revival tour. The lead singer Colin Hay tours a lot of the folk festivals in Oz, but never does any Men at Work. Its funny that it was a Scotsman that wrote one of the national identiying songs of Australia. 'I Come From The Land Down-Under' by a guy born in the North!!!!!!

And he sounded just like STING as well.....wonders never cease....

Err, you may be right, Shugsy... Scott Litt or Don Gehman...must be the REM connection that I mixed them up. I'm definitely sure Scott Litt remixed Run2.

Art Baker did do a remix of LWTUA as well as that Gehman fella. The Baker mix was super-weird though, and I'm not sure of the release details, but it's on Audiogalaxy if you search for "Love will tear us apart baker". I advise extreme caution - he 'approached from behind with devious intent' IMHO. CTD

thanks for the info, Candy... gotta check audiogalaxy,then. The last time I was at AG,I had so much problems getting a song downloaded...especially when I requested for a higher than 128kps quality...

He's alright, our Mr Baker. Mixes a great version of Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys and played EGG and Thieves before one of the Brixton gigs.

He also played Get Ready by the Temptations one night which I though was a nice touch...
