Why do NO get NO mainstream radioplay?

do many people on this site actually listen to the radio? i listen to the '80s station out of tampa, but that's about it. if the local stations were to play a NO song it would inevitably be sandwiched between sum charlotte and green 41, so there would be no point anyway.
I can't stand the radio. I never listen to it, and I don't understand why my friends and parents sometimes prefer it to their perfectly normal, working CD players. I don't know how I would have "discovered" NO or Depeche Mode or any of the other great 80's and beyond synthbands without the internet. Pop music is swamped in ugly, atonal rap/hip-hop garbage as of now, or so it seems.

Problem with this:
Songs that get heavy rotation on TV music channels and the radio still sell more than songs that don't... yes there is the occasional exception... 'crazy frog' being one...
Less sales equals record company unhappiness and increased chances that NO will call it a day sooner rather than later...
The idea of NO chucking it all in or being gently nudged to do so by their suited masters (because of lack of mainstream interest) would be a sad way to end a unique recording career...
Still not a single peep of WFTSC on any radiostations in the UK - I'm bored out of my head at work so I have been spending time keeping an ear out - so far nothing...
If anyone hears WFTSC being played on a mainstream radio station let us know!
I think Radio 2 is the place to hear New Order these days - that's where I first heard 'Krafty' earlier this year. I think you've got more chance of hearing them on TV programmes - I heard 'Crystal' on 'What not to wear' this week as well as New Order/Joy Division on recent episodes of 'Cutting It'. Also, I think they used to play the beginning of 'The Beach' (Blue Monday instrumental) on Crimewatch UK but I haven't watched this for sometime now.
I had a long drive back from a short break in Devon yesterday and as i had played the few CDs i did have with me hundreds of times as i drove around during my short hol i ended up listening to Radio 1 for almost the whole journey back to the midlands. Just to see what they play all day on average as i hadn`t listened to the station much for a long long time.
Jesus.Its not the fact they dont play good stuff ,its more that they hardly play bloody anything!!.It a bit like the main MTV channel these days wherein its all programmes like Cribs,The Osbournes and Pimp My fcuking Ride.There is almost no music on Radio 1.Its either Jo Whiley or Colin Murray or Edith Bowman blabbering away ALLLL DAYYYYY LOOOOOOONG
.And if its not them its some crap phone - in compettition.Jesus christ the DJs seemed to play no more 2 songs every hour.Which are usually some R n`B or Hip Hop or Black Eyed bloody Peas.
That actually must take some effort.To talk so much as Jo Whiley and Colin Murray do.

It's better this way, Keeps things special, it dont matter how good a band are, fact is they dont represent the target audience and im glad!, By the way, i went down to my local sommerfield's recently and they were playing Joy Division, I thought i'd slid into a parrallell universe or something (the one where JD & NO were as big as u2) ;)
It's nice to be part of something that other people don't get - I just hope NO are making enough dosh to keep things viable...

The only time I hear NO on the radio in Toronto is on "retro" shows on the weekend. The only place I hear current NO is in stores, and they're usually trendy furniture or clothing stores.
(I think I heard 60 Miles on an episode of ER last year.)
Blue Monday is currently being used in a Mars (chocolate) bar advertisement on TV and at the cinema. While I cringe everytime I see this ad - I also can't help but enjoy the song. (I just close my eyes and listen to the tune and forget it's being used to push chocolate bars.)
Yup, all of the above. But I also think that another reason is that they've lost the 'Indie Mystique/Coolness' that they once had.
It's because they've done what so many others did before (and in their circumstances, can't really blame them) and signed to a major label.
They're becoming a band that gets consigned to the bargain bin 6 weeks after they release an album.
My New Order 5 year plan would be:
Year 1: Release new album asap and release a 'rarities' album and an un-bootlegged good gig. Year 2: Free of contractual obligations to London Records, set up their own label. Release new album of varied material (including Gillian AND Phil in the band) and tour extensively, while complaining that 'We're just too old for this shit... ...this one's called 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'. Year 3: Release all existing gigs on DVD at bi-weekly intervals over the next 6 years, making loadsamoney. Year 4: Goodbye Tour - playing completely different sets every gig and releasing each gig on CD/DVD. Year 5: Barney becomes US President, owing to the fact that he can afford to pay off the voters, using the profits from the previous 4 years. Hooky becomes UK Prime Minister and decrees that boybands are illegal. Steve & Gillian become King & Queen and endorse (most of) what Hooky says. US and UK get even closer, deciding in an even-mannered way that Canada should be the recording Capital of the world.
After that, everyone's National Anthem becomes... *add your favourite New Order Tune Here*

A lot of the classics get played on MTV2 (Blue Monday voted 2nd greatest single of all time
) and VH2, but songs from WFTSC get three plays and then dumped.
Did anyone see them talking to Zane Lowe on Gonzo, talking about the aborted attempt to rescue people from a burning house?

I don't mind listening to KNRK when I'm in Salem or points north, it doesn't come in very well down here. Heard quite a bit of NO on there, as well as a number of songs I never thought I'd hear again (Bauhaus' cover of Ziggy Stardust, for one), they've gotten a lot better since they got rid of that jackass Marconi and his moronic show. Still, on their minus side, they still do play way too much of the Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers for my taste, but I can change the channel for four or five minutes, no problem.
