Hello all,

I love this site and new order. I've been in a new order frenzy for the past 2-3 days. This post is really 2 threads in one(!).

Although I've been familiar with their music over the years, I have been watching the videos only recently (because of this site!) and I have a question and a comment.

About "true faith": Who are the gorgeous girls near the end of the video?! Great choreography also, I love watching this!

About "the perfect kiss": (My interpretation of expressions, highly subjective, aren't we though?) Has anyone ever noticed this, at the beginning Gillian and Hooky don't show any strong emotion, while Bernard looks like "yeah, the cameras are on but I'll pretend they aren't there" -- playful apprehension maybe. And Steve is looking around, trying to appear nonchalant but seems to be saying "I hope this works." At the end of the video, Steve's face is like "well, we did it", Bernard's expressions is sort of "I hope that was a good take." Also at the end, Gillian and Hooky are still "flat" in their expressions, sort of like "now the song's over, no big deal, so what."

I think it's hilarious, there is drama but it's all understated, and most of the emotion is allocated for the musical performance itself. Any one else want to throw their spin on this video?

Cheers!!

"Trevor"

P.S. I was going to search the forums for previous posts about these topics, but currently there is no search!!

I always though the point of the TPK video was 'stick a camera on them & watch them squirm':evil4:

They seemed somewhat miffed at the end of TPK and Ian's ghost looked downright disappointed in them.

They're just not comfortable with the camera, knowing that many eyes will be watching them, simple as that. Get over it.

I think Steve gives a pissed off looks at Barney (or was it Hooky... ) right when the song ends.

Internal monologue: Steve: Fookin' Barney... Barney: That's it, that's it...bring on the Pernod! Hooky: Fook off, Mr. Camera-man! Gillian: Whew, no major fuck ups...now where's our paycheck, TONY?!

O-kay, i'll remember to stick one of those colorful smilie faces onto the end of a sentence next time to safely denote all incoming jokes.

Personally i think the whole point of the video was like (as opposed to all the mtv video gimmicks stuff,) what if you just actually watched a band just playing their instruments for a video. What a crazy way out concept! I always thought jonathon demme just said to them "right don't show any emotion- look as bored as possible" in a piss take of their reputation as distant and removed. Bernard nearly fucks it up by laughing though. Gillian does the best job of keeping a totally straight face. i think its one of their best videos and really funny

TPK is my fav Video, at one point gillian looks like she is going to lose it, steve does too , but he is looking down at the synth. hooky is the only one that stayed stone faced during all his appearences in the video. great video, as are most of their vids, they do have some stinkers though(round & round... boaring!)

I agree; it totally fits with what was written about them at that time. "If they want to call us stand-offish, so be it." Classic!

RE: TPK- jonathan demme instructed the band to not look at the camera. their facial expressions are as much a product of the director as they are the mythical gloomy disposition of the band. i imagine the band thinking this:

Steve: Are we finished? Hooky: We're so f@cking good, if only our singer didn't suck Gillain: Did i remember to switch off the Arp? Bernard: I really can't sing, can i?

I don't believe their pissed off in TPK, just a bit shocked by the cameras in their face, bit nerve racking you know. So they were just trying to keep it cool, but can still sense the awkward feeling.
