C'mon you slags...how could you let a kind American wake up to this? I count on you to have better taste than we do.

Nominees for the 2002 Brit Awards, announced tonight (Jan. 14) at Abbey Road Studios in London:

Best international group: Daft Punk Destiny's Child Limp Bizkit R.E.M. The Strokes

Best British Single Bob The Builder, "Mambo No 5"

Best Band Earning No Nominations Whatsoever New Order

I will forgive you if Aphex Twin wins best male solo artist...but for God's sake...DO NOT let this man onstage to speak. Not that he'd show up anyway...

P.S. Am I the only person who knows that the Dido record was released, what, four or five years ago? Is Power, Corruption and Lies still eligible?

Now I'm all cranky and it's your fault.

Likewise Atomic Kitten have been in the 'Best Newcomer' section for the last 2 years -which sort of defeats the object of that award. Craig Davids album was released last year as well. A farce from start to finish.

What about the best band named U2 award? they usually invent one of those.

They want to present U2 with the Band of the Year award, but the trouble right now is getting the whole audience into the time machine to take them back to 1986 -- the only place such an award could conceivably be given without appearing totally ridiculous.

Yes, Gorillaz are up for six awards, more than any other act.

By the way, what's up with "Kid A" (2000) being nominated? "Amnesiac" was the 2001 release, right? Do these awards follow the calendar year? Am I missing something in the five-hour time difference? 'Splain to me Lucy.

Interesting, seeing as they are not an ACTUAL band!

Still, there are people out there who think Lara Croft is a real person....

Ican't believe there are people who still take these awards ceremonies seriously anymore. Since when have the Brits ever been a barometer to measure anything by? Fuck the Brits - who gives a shit? They mean naff all!! Gorrillaz and Dildos? Are they trying to tell us something perhaps?

I Wish the Aphex Twin WOULD win a Brit award (shouldve done for Come To Daddy/Windowlicker videos I think) just so he can gatecrash the whole shebang in his German tank and open fire on all the gathered arselickers , splattering them into oblivion - wouldn't that be grrrrreat??

i hope gorrilazz win all the awards because they dont exist and they admitt it unlike boyzone etc Richard will not win anything cause DRUQKS was shite

think they say that it is the bands/albums that had an inpact that year, rather than the year of release... not sure how they work out the newcomer bit though - the mpndays & roses were up for it after about 10 years in existence...

We have something like that here. It's called *NSync.

Has anyone considered who will accept the award for the Gorillaz when they win? I hope those animators limber up before the presentation.

You think that's a laugh, consider the People's Choice Awards here in the States. There are only three nominess per catagory, and with the musical acts you can always tell who'll win by the number of teenage girls screaming in the audience. I think *Nstync picked that one up as well (talentless bastards!)

What's all this about the Brits? It's not as if New Order are going to be even nominated, let alone win anything. When was the last time we saw the mighty Order come away clutching a Brit Award?? Wasn't it 1988, with their True Faith video? Since then, they haven't won a sausage!

Agree with you Todd - 88 was indeed the last year:nod: Dunno why - but I always think NO will be awarded the Outstanding Achievement award - some of the tossers they've give it to - just aren't worth mentioning....so I won't:lol:

Gnu is right about the British having better taste than (most) of us Yanks. There are plenty of people who are still irked that A Taste of Honey won the Grammy for Best New Artist over Elvis Costello.
