Jason Donovan, New Order fan

In today's freebie 'Metro' Newspaper, Jason Donovan's top six tracks on his iPOD are Personal Jesus, DM, In Between days, Cure, Vertigo, U2, Red Rain, peter Gabriel, Better be home soon, Crowded House and PERFECT KISS - on the last one, he says:

"This has a really dynamic instrumental and its got the dance element that so much of New Order's stuff has. They were really the beginning of dance music being cool, when it was unusual to use drum machines rather than straight instruments"

So New Order don't use straight instruments, get on the Gay Train!

i remember on a Radio 1 programme many many years ago - late eighties (poss v.early 90's) he mentioned Thieves Like Us as one of his fave choons

For the non Brits/Aussies - Jason Donovan was once a star of the Aus soap opera "Neighbours" (which is filmed just down the road from me, incidentally - and no, I don't say that with pride). He was the one-time on and off screen squeeze of Kylie Minogue. Oh, and he did some songs with SAW, which were as dire as his contribution to acting. Had some problems with charlie in the late 90's, but I think he's clean now. He still probably sucks, however. CTB

No worries Spotnick. That fact that you have never heard of him reinforces the quality of your musical tastes only about tenfold. I on the other hand, have heard of him, and am trying desperately to forget about him!

I think Kylie must be a bit of a New Order fan as well. I remember when she performed at The Brits a few years ago she sang 'Can't get you out of my head' to the tune of 'Blue Monday'.

I remember this and believe also this was mentioned in Smash Hits where he said NO were his favourite band. Then 2 years or so later he changed his mind and said another band was his favourite, can't remeber who though. I doubt it was INXS though.

Im not a Jason fan but I remember (embarrassingly) an article in Smash Hits late 80's when he mentioned Thieves Like Us was one of his fave tunes. Nothing wrong with that, or naming Perfect Kiss. He has a point about the drum machine point, as no one can deny that NO were at the forefront of this gadgetry.

Its quite funny that as I started to read that Metro article, Perfect Kiss from Electronic Ecstacy started playing on my MP3 player.
