The start of that track has a very Gothic felling with that chord progression during the verse. It is persistantly reminding me of the Fields of the Nephilim. I feel as if someone is about to break into "Moonchild" or something... Anyone help me out here? No? Alright then. I'll shut up then.

Yes... There is something special in this track.
First though that this Joe guy was in fact GI Joe ("it's time to go home")but I am not sure. A good song anyway!
I'm not sure what it reminds of or who Joe is, but I do like the song it seems like it's telling a story a la 1963. I remember the part in the song about how his heart was broken by a woman and she thought he was no good. Maybe he's a cheating drunk!

I don't really know what the song means. I don't even know who this "Joe" may be in the song. But I think it's a really good song anyways. I especially like the lyrics in the chorus.
Basically, I think it's up to the listener who "Joe" is in this song. Same with "1963", it's also up to the listener who "Johnny" is. No matter what the band says, we fans still have the right to interpret a song in our own way anyways.

Who's Joe? seems to have divided opinion. I personally love it while recognising it's not single material but definitely a great album track/opener in my book. The way the synth opening builds and those metallic clangs usher in some fantastic guitar riffs is why it's so effective. A mate of mine who is a casual NO fan can't stand it, says it's like something lazy or half-hearted... can't say I agreed with him! He also thinks Jetstream is throwaway rubbish, and you can tell you've been reduced to some pretty desperate reasoning by defending "Well, it made some decent remixes" which is how I felt 
I must admit I too am beginning to have reservations about Jetstream. I think the band will regret having even written it in a few years and the fact Hooky said "it's not one of my favourites" in an NME interview speaks volumes. You can tell Barney put his foot down there, only time will tell if it will become a classic. It doesn't look good so far really.
Back to Who's Joe? Barney said it was about a tramp, and he has no idea who. Chalk up another set of vauge, shit lyrics then

Don't you think that the synth lines from 'Who's Joe' are very similar to the ones in song called 'Angel' by Invisible Limits?

Who's Joe is a great opening track! Slowly builds up, welcoming into the album. Personally, I always go 1,2,3, 7,8,9,10,11
Four and five (I Told You So and MN&D) have been getting the most play lately You can tell Stephen put in the extra work on this one (drumming or programming-wise)
