And if NO lack of success was (creatively) good news ?

Maybe I'm being naive, here but...

New Order doesn't exactly sell loads today. But they sell enough to go on.

What can that mean : go on with less money and, maybe less pressure...

Maybe they could end up thinking : so, what don't we do just what we want, as in the old days, since we're not that succesful when we play the game ?

Maybe...

in a perfect world maybe, but as i was taught in my economics class, we must assume that each person is selfish and is trying to get as much as they can without the least effort. Now that is not a direct quotation from economics text but you will find a statement like that in all macro-economic texts. I think that the move to Warner is dictating what they can and cannot do at the moment. I agree it would be great seeing them do what they wan't, but is it a reality in todays music hype market?

I understand yer point Busty, but I don't think they have ever wrote a record - for the sake of a big-seller, they write what they like and if people don't buy it - I genuinely believe they aren't really bothered, sure I think if they had a No1 with GR they would've been happy, but you just need to look at the people who attend the concerts - to see how happy everyone is with them:nod: - Just wish they'd change the set-lists more often, that's the only complaint I have of them;)

The concerts are one of my concerns, Shug, since they seem to think they have no choice but to play Blue Monday, to have some kind of greatest hits package...

I agree with you Buster. They are in the mode of pleasing the casual fan and writing songs with choruses repeated until your nose bleeds. They are a watered down version of NewOrder from the 80's but they sound so much better these days. To me, that is the biggest crime. NewOrder sound great as a band but the creative drive that made their catalogue so impressive has been lost. To be honest with you, i think cocaine has a huge influence on their lack of creativity. The power chords, the lame chorus being repeated to death, the lack of interest in being a real band...why can't they add songs to their set? It doesn't make sense and it may end up alienating lots of hardcore fans who based alot of their admiration for NewOrder on ethics the band do not adheer to these days.

I know what you mean Busty - In 98 after they played the Apollo - it was great hearing the JD songs:nod: and the revamped Touched / True Faith... Even at Reading 98 it was good although they dropped Run and In A Lonely Place (mainly cos they were supporting Garbage:nonono: ) but when they played the same set at Manchester MENA and The Ally Pally NYE gigs - I actually got rather pissed off:nod: The main thing that got to me was the thought "Lazy Bastards" don't get me wrong - I fuckin love them - but to play basically the same set 4 times in a row - totally pissed off the hardcore supporters, then this year they done the same - I can understand it - But I don't like it;) For the people who only go to 1 gig here and there it's ok - but if you travel around to see them (like several of us on here) it gets a bit annoying.

I think that has already happened don't you think? Consider the appalling sales of their latest LP Get Ready - the fans didn't exactly rush out to snap that one up did they? (especially in US). I think they have paid the price (of love?), and it's costing them dearly.

Dunno about that mate - they have never really had a massive fan base anyway. And considering they've been away for so long - you'd have to expect it!! That and the fact their PR and Record Company is fuckin useless;) All the Hardcore fans I know own it and went to the gigs - so I'll have to disagree mucker;)

Agreed that their record co. (London) is next to useless, so why don't they just do one and get out of the contract and go it alone again then? - maybe they'll regain full control of their ship then by doing that. Factory may have been appallingly mismanaged but at least we were neverfobbed off with odious multiple formatting of CDs and shockingly bad remixes not to mention inconsistent releases with some formats being deliberately made unavailable (for exapmple, Get Ready was never released on vinyl, and for a plastic junkie like moi, that is fucking criminal - no wonder it sold so poorly).

Here in Oz Get Ready has done alright, for a small country! There is a good following for NO here and there is always a rush to purchase any released by bands such as the Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order, Powderfinger, You Am I. None of these bands attained commercial status but have a solid core of fans that will always purchase the material, albums, remixes, everything!!!!

Hubert, i've seen with my own eyes many copies of Get Ready on vinyl. It is available.

 Agree with all of that - except for the vinyl bit - I'm sure you can still order copies from HMV etc...if not check e-bay;)

generally agree, especially about changing their set lists at gigs. But wasnt World In Motion an intentional money spinner?? or did Keith Allen write it!!!!

I thought World In Motion was typical New Order albeit commercially driven. Only they could make a football song sound 'cool' that appealed to both hard core and top 40 fans.

Cheers mate, but I tried that a couple of times at my nearest HMV in Middlesbrough - but all I got was blank looks and the assertion that, "no, we think/we're sure it was only released on CD as no vinyl catalogue number was supplied", so HMV cannot get hold of the vinyl, it's hardly likely that other shops in Middlesbrough are likely to....unless you're implying that only certain regions are lucky enough to get it on vinyl, which sounds dubious in the extreme; this is gettin' silly.....what the hell is going on fer frig's sake??
