Taking a note from the overstaturation of political polls in the states, im curious to find out what Nooler's generally think of him.

Please dont turn this into a gillian thread. Its time to get over her leaving.

Yes, Gillian is gone (unless she takes my suggestion about being Barney's cloak-holder in the dancing thread), and Phil is in. I'm not really decided one way or another.

One of the things that made NO unique compared to a lot of their peers was the presence of a woman as an equal member of the group. Most Eighties or punk bands had women around, but as eye candy or groupies in the back. Gillian, on the other hand, was a talented musician who happened to be easy on the eyes as well. It's the same with the Velvet Underground and Talking Heads, NO were in that small "brother-sisterhood" if you will.

Now it is four members, if you catch my drift :evil4:

Nonetheless, Phil's a good find from what I've heard on WFTSC. I think it will take the next album for us to finally "accept" him as a member, but I think it will happen :thumb:

I do like his song - Hey now what you doing

that is a good song, but personally i wish they chose somebody more electronically adept.

I have 1 question about Phil. I know he was in a group called marion, were they any good?

It's always hard if someone has to replace a long time member. We should give him a chance...

Undecided yet... Let's wait for the next 1 or 2 albums.

Marion's leader wanted to make them the next Joy Division... Yeah, right. They were crap, second rate Britpop with a new wave inspiration, but they're to Joy Division what early Shed Seven were to The Smiths. So much of an abyss to dare a comparison... When you think of Marion, you can really appreciate bands like Interpol and The Bravery, they're genius when compared to them. When I knew Phil was coming to New Order from Marion, I expected nothing good. Then I thought: wait, he was on Twisted Tenderness too, and he did no harm, he can't be that bad. And when I heard him live I really liked him. He was already good in his first gig in Liverpool, though there were some obvious problems, but by Paris one year later he had already improved a lot, fully integrated with the band and started to contribute precious stuff here and there. The new album just tells us how many good things he can do on record too... We couldn't hope better. Maybe we'd need ALSO a keyboardist and New Order should become a quintet. But don't touch Phil, he's a great guitarist for New Order.

Undecided, but not because I don't like Phil. I just need to get used to him like everyone else. I do enjoy his guitar work, but maybe its just cause I think they should have added Johnny Marr instead if they could have. But I've been really warming up to Phil lately. Probably come fully around by the next album.

He makes a good job as an additional guitarist but I don't like his influence on the composition.

His contribution as a keyboard player is poor.

I'm a huge fan of Johnny Marr, but he's got a style too strong of his own, it wouldn't be New Order anymore. Also we already have two big egos, Bernard and Hooky, add Johnny and what a mess we have... ;)
