are playing in Manchester in October.

Just wondering if it is worth is these days, anyone seen 'em recently?

Can Shaun string more than one word together? Does Paul still play bass?

I first saw 'em supporting NO in '85, crackin gig, but drugs have taken their toll......(on them, not me)

I think I'll end up going to Clapham just cos Flowered Up are supporting, but I don't think they're all that to be honest. Only original members are Shaun, Bez and Gaz Whelan. Bez is still Bez but Shaun just stays rooted to the spot. Paul Ryder owns the name, I think, and 'leases' it to them but him and Shaun don't speak so he's not involved, just a bunch of session musicians instead. Most of the stuff is from Pills and later but they do play WFL, Mad Cyril and 24HrPP and even Reverend Black Grape.

I was at Clapham Common last year. Ryder was never much of a dancer, but he literally didn't move at all for the whole gig. His opening line 'I'm shitting meself here' was quite a contrast to the 'Hello Texas' swagger of old. They did "Stinkin Thinkin" though, which was quite sweet.

The lasting impression I have from the day was the half-overheard conversations of the other punters. "I'm in marketing..." "We've made a long weekend of it - saw Les Mis last night..." and my absolute favourite "Going to the after party?" "Can't, the baby-sitter's waiting." Even the baggiest baggies had to grow up one day!

The lowpoint was Wilson bringing his new 'act' on right when the Mondays were due. Quite a few 'personalised' cans of Red Stripe were thrown at them!

Not the infamously shit raw t i hope?

See your point about Ryder. When he came out at the Inspirals gig at the apollo he barely moved. Also, until he came out, no one knew who it was. Even when he was singing 24 hour party people.

Not going to the mondays gig myself. Its just ryder and bez making complete tossers of themselves. Then again, thats not exactly something new.

never saw the mondays, but i did see black grape (i think it was tribal gathering '96). they were pretty good, if i remember correctly.

i head one story from a friend about a mondays gig he went to near the end of their run: they were on the stage for about 15 minutes total; shaun kept interrupting songs to go behind the drum kit and get a hit off his crack pipe.

Ummm, reckon I'll give it a miss then. Pixies are playing the Apollo end of Aug so that will do for me.

Brixton Academy in March was fookin ace - The Sludden Order and Bladrick travelled down and met up with Al, Mark, Don, Greg, Ness and a few others - have to say I can't remember too much about the gig, which was mainly due to the fact we had about 15 pints in the Canterbury Arms before hand, but from what I can remember, everyone had a good time  :thumb:

I only just missed them at Clapham last year. I was in London the full week but went home on the Friday before the gig. I've gone and done the same thing again this year, only in London until 26th. Still, i'm seeing them in Newcastle in October :)

I've been in the same tent with Woody!!!

I can't remember much about the Black Grape gig. I was eating an ice cream and sweaty strangers kept asking me for a lick! Yuk!

I remember Paul Oakenfold's set very clearly - by far the best fun I have ever had in a club. Or anywhere.

just look at the new Gorrilaz video, i bet thats as much movement you'll get out of the ryder as a mondays gig, my brother went to see em and he said they we're pretty bad, bez just moving like a twat and ryder couldn't remember the words.

i once read an interview with the afore-mentioned ryder and he said the Mondays only tour these days when he gets a knock on the door from the taxman.
