New Order and raves/all nighters — Forum Archive

Was wondering if New Order ever played at raves (not a cool word to use anymore i know), allnighters or danceclubs in the UK or elswehere? did anyone on this forum see them perform there and did this have effect on their live show in other words did they play a more dancelike show and did they join in at the parties?? any great stories to tell??

Not really no.Unless you class the Alexandra Palace New Yeras eve 98/99 (djs etc after NO had finished their set) do as one and the Manchester MEN do a couple of nights before also.They`ve played countless nightclubs obviously over the years.Leeds Tiffanys ,Sheffield Roxy ,Birmingham Powerhouse amongst others but not a full on danceclub as such.And no, they never had ravers orbiting the M25 in the summer of 1990 in search of "the party" !!! :evil4:

I believe they were supposed to be 'getting their act together' in time for Tribal Gathering in May(?) 2001, so the NME reported at the time. But they obviously didn't pull their finger out. Lazy buggers. Not sure how they'd have gone down though with the likes of Transmission and LWTUA, etc. People seemed confused enough by Kraftwerk when they did Luton Hoo in 96/7/8(?).

Heaven, London in 81 and 84. I attended the 84 gig and do not recall any 'disco' afterwards. I do remember the toilets were curiously labelled 'women & other than women'! or something like that

Other than those mentioned already, before the Olympia gig in Liverpool 2001 we had people handing out tickets for the Grafton nightclub "afterparty" How nieve were we to believe the band would show? :nonono:

Bez did appear for a bit and there was a band on, but Neworder did the "celeb" thing and fucked off to Cream.

hahaha. i live just round the corner from the Grafton (grab a granny) nightclub in Liverpool.

i didn't think for a minute that N.O would show at the Grafton, but i suppose the owners were keen on boostin the numbers after the gig, because the place is basically a dump.

the real after show was at Cream, but it was dead hard to blag a ticket for that.

I wish they'd play the Olympia again though. it was a boss gig. great old theatre venue, and its wasted on stuff like international amateur boxing and pseudo pro wrestling.

Plus, it took me about 5 mins to walk from my house to the Olympia, stoppin of at the Ale Houses on Everton Road and Boaler Street - - of course.

Kraftwek were confused as well, as to why the organisers wanted them to play there. It took the organisers two years to get them for Tribal Gathering 1997. From the couple of tracks i have of that gig, the audience seems to love every song they did.

From memory, they were half an hour late on, played outdoors, and people started drifting off as soon as they plugged in, so to speak. Not sure what people wanted to hear, but Kraftwerk weren't really it. Very bizarre experience.

Hooky often plays DJ sets well into the early hours of the morning - and more often than not on a weeknight which is rather unfortunate for those that have to be in work the next day!!!

I have never seen New Order play at an all nighter or a so called Rave !But i was in to the dance seen in a big way back then.I saw Barney at a all night back in 1990-91.It was called Upfront Promotions held at Stalybridge near Manchester.He was dancing along with me and every body else and had deffinatley not just been drinking lager. Later on in the night the place got ram sacked by all the Moss Side boys ?Very Very scary Experience !!!They also did the same at a small nightclub in Great Harwood near Blackburn,East Lancashire called "Monroes". I also saw Barney play a D.J. set at a club called Foundation in Manchester back in the early 90s.I was well chuffed as he played a track called "Rock the Box" by Sylvester.(One of the greatest Electro tracks of all time) Very good times and very good thoughts stay with you for ever.:) :crazy: :)

Yeah,I went to Manchester MEN to see "TEMPTATION", an allnighter a couple of days before New Years Eve 1998 I think.NEW ORDER played as did UNDERWORLD and featured Justin Robertson,Laurent Garner and many more.
