Reputation

Have new order still got that reputation and cool attitude or are they old has beens? Discuss.

Did they ever have that reputation though ? Or have they always been difficult buggers spoiled to over-indulgence levels by T.Wilson, who just gave them free rein to do as they pleased ?

I can't truly appreciate how people thought of them in the 80's because i've been a fan since 1994. I get the impression they had an aloof attitude that maybe they don't have anymore.

Looking from here, New Order definitely had an attitude. Was it cool ? Well, maybe...

It's quite difficult to detach from this and look at it objectively. My views on them have changed since the 80s for sure, particularly in terms of live performance. I used to travel the country to see a New Order gig in the 80s, and now I left it to the last minute before getting a ticket for one of the three Brixton nights, not even bothering with the other shows. There was a time when if I hadn't got a ticket, I would have turned up just in case. I don't get the same buzz from hearing the same set every night, there's something quite sad to me about these shows, even though the prospect of seeing them live again does appeal to me (guess I am an eternal optimist).

To me, they were the most important musical influence of my youth, and got me playing the guitar in the first place. Ironically, they are now much less significant to me musically, yet I have spent more time thinking about and discussing them the last few weeks than I have since around 1987. If only this site had been around in those days :)

they WERE cool and elusive, but i think the death of factory and signing to a major a lot of that feeling has been losted.

i know a lot of people won't agree with me but i think get ready is pants. it maybe that i'm no longer a teenager and music dosen't mean that much to me but hey......

Practically any photo of the band could be mistaken for a snapshot taken at the reunion of the high school audiovisual club.

I think a lot of their 'cool' has come from being apparently just normal guys and gals out to have a good time. Theyre obviously getting on a bit now though...

A good measure of hoe 'cool' their esteemed to be is that I can't remember anyone taking the piss out of me for liking the 'order. And if they did I'd hit em.

It was their attitude that did it for me, besides the music of course.Call it cool or arrogant or whatever.And just as Mr.Sloppy mentioned,they were the most important musical influence for me too. Seek this bit of audio from the net and you will be rewarded with the funniest interview ever and a good idea of the "attitude" of classic neworder. Today's Order are using every cliche in the book. In fact, they probably thought that since they were so cool and uncompromised in the 80's, that they could be record label whores playing Vegas style greatest hits shows around the world while asshole American's (Billy Corgan) add their whiney voices to their records.

In the interview mentioned above, Peter Hook states that "It's a rip-off to include singles on the albums". If only they could keep their ethics in check, I'd still have hope. I do not see the Order radically changing their live show EVER. They will end their touring days playing BLT, True Faith and Blue Monday EVERY NIGHT. They will never release a studio album that is more that 60minutes in length and most of that music will be rereleased in single format with multiple shit remixes. The end is near. Is this what happens when we get old? Do they vote Tory? Do they support the imperialism, i mean war against terrorism? Who cares as long as they care about what they do. If you mess with me i'll get rid of you...............

No band can ever be "cool" or have "attitude" anymore when they display such an increasing propensity for naff-sounding backing singers on their records. That's the true sign of complacent middle age taking over. Attitude? Don't mek me laff.... Nuff sed.

well unfortunately within my friends the decision is split - one set of friends lovely as they are have very poor musical taste and think n o are just old blokes that sang a song called blue monday once. The other set (older) think wow you went to see new order. Their thoughts however are not not that new order are 'cool' just top banana! there isn't actually an adequate word to sum them up - i'd say they've still got it - now in a different way.

isn't attitude a shitty teenage concept? Liam Gallagher - don't make me laugh- NO fans wouldn't put up with such a crappy outlook! I'm glad that NO appear normal. And as for naff-sounding backing singers, the coolest bands have always had these singers in tow - look at the Mondays, Smiths etc. all used backing singers to some extent
