What's it like? Dance-like atomosphere?

What are some of the songs that are usually played?

In Chicago, most people were staring to the booth and not dancing.

In New York City, Hooky was in open air on a podium, so it was much better for that. Many people were dancing, but there was plenty of room around.

as i recall, you were being quite the wallflower, nic. i should have pulled you onto the dance floor for a bit of dirty dancing. ;)

he danced in chicago :) if i recall, lisa made him. i think he ended up dancing cause he was falling asleep cause he had not slept much here and when he did it was on a shitty air matress :( sorry nic. we have a guest room and a comfy matress for you next time.

i wasn't going to go to his dj event this time around, but since it's at smartbar again & not soundbar, i'l definetly go :)

nic was definitely running on empty in new york after traveling all over and being so busy. the poor lad looked simply exhaused. we had a nice chat sitting next to the DJ booth, but i still want to see our nicos dance!

I said it before and I'll say it again...Musically I was satisfied although I think flowise he was a little erratic. Technically he needs a lot of practice.

I'm sorry but I'm a picky fuk when it comes to DJs being one myself...

I don't play an instrument for this very reason although I'm sure if I did I'd be very good at it after lots of practice.

atmosphere in NYC was OK...I was dead tired from flying back from Houston that very day.

It's not related to the matress Kamar, it was related to getting home at 6AM and leaving at 11AM with about 10 people in your appartment leaving at different hours. And we did that 2 days in a row... in my case it was 3 days in a row because I couldn't sleep before going to Chicago :evil4:

I have no idea how Mike and you survived through this... hehe.. I was also unable to sleep the next day because I didn't want to miss the plane :evil4:

And yes, Lisa was able to make me dance.. I'm pretty sure she could melt artic if she wanted also ;)

As for dancing in New York, I walked all day in New York City... spent the whole New Order show on the side DANCING (yes, you read it) with the band's management on the side, and then we went to the DJ set, I was really exhausted and my knee (remember, I had surgery last year) started to hurt..

Obviously, I wasn't drunk enough, that's the problem :p plus, there was so many people at Hiro it was even hard to stand up because of the lack of space..

I pretty much enjoyed my stay in Chicago and thank you for being the host... I hope I'll be able to give back someday if you ever want to visit here!

post on the orlando thread in the ceremony forum if you want to meet up for drinks beforehand.

i think it would be pointless to ask anybody if they were going to Buffalo for hooky.

Denton actually has two colleges - The University of North Texas (third largest school in the state with 30K+ students, known for it's radio/TV/film school and music programs) and Texas Women's University. If there is an Austin Jr. in Texas then Denton is it.

There are over 100,000 people here so the town isn't completely off the map, but being a thirty minute drive from either Dallas or Fort Worth we are often forgotten.

BTW, my offer of a free beer to anyone showing up is still good. To my understanding there won't be advance tickets sold, but if they go on sale I'll post it here. Hailey's always has a DJ set on Thursday nights and so far they have not really advertised for this.....

.......

Haileys are now working on advertising. it should be good. the resident 80s dance nite DJ on thursday will be playing before hand to get his crowd warmed up - some Hacienda classics, Madchester faves and a few NO/JD songs. i think alot of people will still enjoy the evening.

Hey someone had mentioned an unconfirmed date in Washington DC at DC9 in October? Any word on that possibility? The tour dates now seem pretty set with no DC.

Thanks,

Mickey

Mr. Peter Hook. I gave you a CD when you DJ'd with Barney in Brighton during the Tsunami last New Years (that was way cool by the way man and thanks for the pizza snacks and the free champange...now you know why these guys are a good band)...I guess we're missing the political convention in Brighton this year...oh yeah and I met a red haired german girl the morning after the gig...(now I never see her)..go see Hooky DJ people...your life's too short to not do that man... anyways..Hooky...spin my CD..and make me big time man...--Justin Beck www.garageband.com/bioutopia

Thanks for that update Spotnik.

And are any of you from the DFW area going to be at the Denton set? If so let me know and I'll be there to buy you a beer.

ill see you there!

To all the people asking 'Why Denton'. Check out what else is playing that weekend at haileys.

Saturday, October 8 Wolf Eyes Prurient

Wed Oct 12 Black Dice

It's a small town with a high concentration of cool people who WILL be at good shows. That is why bands come to Denton. They usually skip the Greenville avenue frat daddy crowd to get to one thats a little more forgiving. Mark Kozelek was at Hailey's last week because he actually had to ask someone to get off their cellphone the last time he played at Gypsy Tea Room.
