Set list for 2002.01.18 Auckland, New Zealand

I'm sure it will be the same as every other concert, but I would still like to know, can anyone put down the set list?

Hey, just got back from the BDO in Auckland. Absolutely brillant performance by New Order!

Not 100% sure (the middle section in particular) about the order but the tracks played were:

5. Your Silent Face
6. 60mph
7. Love Will Tear Us Apart
8. Close Range
9. Ceremony
10. Touched By The Hand Of God
11. Bizarre Love Triangle
12. Temptation (very long version)
13. True Faith ("new" 2002 version - according to Barney, but not too different to the Reading mix)
14. Blue Monday

They played for 1hr 30mins - don't know why so long, but they ended up playing last (after Prodigy) because of an "incident" earlier in the day in the System Of A Down mosh pit. They were originally scheduled to play for only an hour.

No Gillian, as expected, but they had an extra guitarist / keyboardist - can't remember his name but Barney did introduce him as someone he "dragged out of the pub".

Also, good to see a fairly young(ish) crowd eg. a lot < 25 y.o. Plus the youngin's new all the words to Temptation, Transmission, etc.!!! All that extensive promotion of Get Ready / Crystal in NZ has obviously attracted a lot of new fans.

I'm a kiwi fan and heres my review of the gig. Will post this to the gigs section when I find out where to do it!

Reviweed by Matthew Smyth It’s been a long wait and 15 years since New Order were last in New Zealand. New Order were one of the headlining acts at the Big Day Out, including Prodigy and Garbage. When New Order took the stage, Hooky stated “it’s great to be back”, a sentiment clearly shared by the hard-core New Order fans who made their way to the front on the stage positioned between Barney & Hooky.

Previously scheduled to appear for one hour at 8:15PM before Prodigy, New Order finally took the stage as the last act around 10:30PM. This owing to a reorganised band order following an earlier incident where people were injured and the main barrier damaged when ‘System of a Down’ took the stage and the crowd went ballistic. As a result, New Order ended playing a longer set of around 75 minutes. Bonus!

Hooky was in great form and often played to the fans down the front. He was wearing a red t-shirt with Salford printed on the front which he tossed to the fans at the end of the gig. Barney looked tired but found time to respond to calls from the fans for Joy Division songs, by stating “we don’t play Joy Division songs any more because Joy Division no longer exist” before launching into Transmission. Steve never missed a beat and shared his drumsticks with the crowd at the end of the gig.

There were a few technical difficulties with Barneys monitor and the sequencer getting a bit out of whack for a short time during BLT and Your Silent Face. It was amusing to see those bloody synth drums Hooky plays during Blue Monday were also not working most of the time. One of the roadies was holding onto the top of it with Hooky smashing the pads just below his fingertips. I thought this was amusing because I recall him having trouble with these in plenty of other gigs. Probably cause he smashes the shit out of them.

Stand out songs for me were a blinding Temptation along with 60MPH (well received by the crowd), Transmission, Your Silent Face & Ceremony. Touched by the Hand of God is not my favourite New Order song, but they did a particularly good rendition – this song first made it’s live debut at the Galaxy Club, Auckland, New Zealand in 1987. Scary to think it is now 15 years since I last heard it live. Barney announced they were performing a new live version of True Faith which was the original version wrapped up with a new intro and ending that worked well.

The show ended with Blue Monday and Barney stating “our career was founded on this song” or words to that effect. He looked particularly bored playing it and at one stage missed the lyrics before picking them up again for what was undoubtedly a crowd pleaser.

It was fantastic to see them again after such a long drought and the fans were elated to hear a good mix of classic New Order, Joy Division greats and the brilliant new material from ‘Get Ready’.

On another note, purely by chance I saw a brief interview with the band on TV the night before the Big Day Out. Hooky stated they were pleased the album ‘Get Ready’ had been well received which motivated them towards making another album. Let hope so!

i knew it! exactly as i predicted. except it was YSF and not Touched that got botched. they are now, truly predictable. i bet everyone had a great f*@king time though. what a bonus to see neworder close the show and play an extra half hour. the worst part of area:one was finding something to do after neworder played. should have closed that festival too. if moby was a real fan he would have given them the closing slot at least once. he's too good for his own britches.

Still the same set list then... come on lads, use some imagination. How about surprising us all and throwing in a new track or playing perfect kiss? or even *shock* the original true faith and BLT.
