Favorite Live Recording?

For me hands down its Pumped Full Of Drugs. This Time Of Night, Subculture, Sunrise and my favorite version of Blue Monday.

If you are talking about 'official' live recordings, then there aren't many to choose from & PFD is probably the best - Confusion & TTON stand out in my memory. Also the two tracks from Montreaux that appear on NewOrderStory - especially Everyone Everywhere - that gets repeated a lot on my video!

As for bootlegs, we wouldn't know anything about them

I had a brilliant bootleg where they sarted TPK, just got up to the end of the intro and the sequencer died and hooky went straight into ceremony, timing was perfect sounded fantastic.

Perhaps for me 850501 Kohseinenkin Hall. Tokyo Japan which was the night before/after Pumped Full Of Drugs. I justed loved 586 on that one. If we are talking offical release then its got to be Finsbury Park

i play manchester apollo 1998 a lot. isolation sounds so good on that recording!

i barcelona '84 is my fav at the moment. another fav is a video i have from '86 i think from the manhattan club in Germany

dont usually like live albums but the live version of new dawn fades on still album is better then studio version for me

Denial, Macc '85, got the crowd so frenzied that it kicked off big time. A gig full of testosterone.

Hooky stuck his Bass in a guys face, Barney nearly took my head off when he smashed up his guitar, and Gillian powdered her nose with angst.

"WHO SAID WE'RE A SYNTHESIZER BAND????" Barney screamed at the end.

And there was a punch up on the coach back to Manchester.

As an NME journalist remarked at the time, only in New Order gigs do you see football hooligans dancing to disco music.

A lot of lads that went to that gig went to Macc crematorian to see Ian's grave beforehand....I think that wound us all up. 3rd song was Blue Monday and we all burst through the makeshift barriers. I ended up practically on stage with Barney, thats why he nearly took me head off.

I was only 15 at the time, seen 'em so many times since but no gig can ever touch Macc '85 for me.

yep Tolworth 83, but also CLP 85 (atmosphere, DNE, procession, sunrise, lonesome, weirdo, 586, tpk, face up, AOC ...and their gone - perfect!), Hacienda 83 (featured in 'Play at Home' ), Blackburn ( youth ! ) 85, Glast 87, RFH 84 ( ..it's long and's got a white line down it... ) - and too many more to mention...

offical, it has to be PFD, accademy is terribly recorded and edited, Tars is great but old, and finsbury is far too faked ( listen to the original boot, then watch the dvd, SO many things have been pro-tools'ed out it's fucking disgusting, a particular example is Hookie's wild bum note at the start of atmosphere....clear as day on the boot....but on DVD....it's been repitched and then pushed back in the mix to hide the pitching artifacts.VERY POOR).

PFD also has one of the best versions of BM ever, much better than the tragic "play the 12" in the background" versions we get now. And if you're one of those who thinks gigs should sound identical to the recording, may I suggest you download a reverb plugin for winamp, set it to hall, put the cd on and stay the fuck away from concets.

I also like reading 93....cos it's the final proof that when they can be arsed, they can play like fuck.# EDIT: i mean 98 as on 316 obviously.

I could never say I had a fave boot tho.

Taras Shevchenko video filmed at the Ukranian National Home back in November 1981. Has the best version of Temptation i have ever heard.

Touched By The Hand Of God from Reading 98. When I heard this on MP3 I presumed it was a BBC Session work out as it sounds fantastic, Barney is in great voice and theres none of the glaring school boy errors that usually occur during New Order sets. Its also 100 times better than the version they did at Glastonbury 1987 and 50 times better than the studio version (which for me is were New Order get the best out of themselves).

I was surprised, when I watched DVD 316, to see that this was a live performance. And wish they had played it at Finsbury Park 2002 (my only venture to a New Order gig).

RFH London 1984. For "Cock" and "Decades", of course.

CLP London 1985. The first gig that I really got into.

Warrington 1986. Priceless guitar-heavy "Blue Monday" and the glorious mess of the debut of "Shellshock".
