NEW ORDERNEW ORDER TO RELEASE FIRST EVER DEFINITIVE COLLECTION

On October 3rd New Order will be releasing a definitive collection of all of their singles to date. ‘Singles’ is the ultimate anthology of the works of one of the most exceptional and groundbreaking British bands to date.

Drawing from twenty four years worth of remarkable recorded material, ‘Singles’ compiles every single released by the band in chronological order. The only way to own all the tracks on ‘Singles’ would be to have purchased every New Order single released in their career. ‘Singles’ displays just what New Order are so good at – creating the perfect pop singles that have crossed over to become ideal moments in music over the last twenty four years. Where as previous collections have focused on the different elements of New Order, ‘Singles’ is the first time that the bands definitive works have been laid out to create this classic New Order collection.

Tracklisting is as follows:

I'm surprised... you are probably the first person in the UK to prefer Guilt to Turn... :eek3:

I think it was the logical choice due to the very high demand for that track... I'm still very surprised by this!

Here, here!

Spotty:

I did start a thread; Turn vs. Guilt and Guilt won (although I was using a different author name back then)...

I think if Turn is being released, then there is no chance at all, whatsoever, of Guilt being released.

 (again)

However, I will live in hope of a mini 12" release of Guilt mixes ala 'Someone Like You'.

:dunno:

I'll ask around the DJ world to see if anyone knows of any whites being pressed up.

I think that if Turn gets released (seems evident now), it will include remixes of Guilt.

I'm quite sure of it... if they are not on the Sirens' single.

Guilt could easily be a 12" promo like Someone Like You was.. but you already have another mix of Guilt on the US album, and nothing stops people from playing the song on the radio if they wanted.

Don't get me wrong, I also rate it above of Turn, but we're a minority I think ;)

Heard about the mix on the US WFTSC- I'm not paying again for WFTSC just to get 1 guilt remix thou'

I'd be a happy boy if it was a double 'a' with Turn (in the UK as well as abroad); that would probably please everyone...

you know something...you may just see remixes of Guilt on the WFTSC 12" if they do the 2 packs which a lot of record companies do these days cause it saves them money.

Spot...maybe someone over at Warner can enlighten us??

Not yet, I got this through the official press relation company, they clearly said a more consistant press release would be available later (hence why it says "Initial" press release)

But let's be honest here...

  1. We know there will be no b-sides
  2. You just can't remix Turn... I just don't see it!
  3. What's the most remixable track on WFTSC left over?

Seems evident to me.. but I'm not them! After all, they remixed old songs for WFTSC (on the 7", still waiting for the waiting for the sirens' call tracklisting (woah.. nice pun))

;)

Substance but instead of remixes as disc 2, they have the singles from the 'worst' album , Get Ready and WTFSC. :/ I'm not going to buy it just for Run 2 that I want to hear. :D

So Regret and Crystal were bad singles eh? :confused2:

Not even sure Run 2 will be Run 2, and Temptation 7" might be something you want too... if it's not Temptation 87.. of course.

I agree but Guilt is definitely remixable...the one on the US CD is not that great.

A lot can be done with that track.

I'm not even sure how remixable WFTSC is to be perfectly honest.

Another fookin thing to shell out for!

I'd love to get to the record label bastard who gave us Interfuckingnational and Retro - unlike them, this is a good idea - especially to all the one's who haven't got the original vinyl singles. But to the older fans (who collect everything) it's just another bastard thing to add to the collection that will hardly see the light of day. Same with the Best Of - that was basically singles as well, at least the Yanks got DNE , Let's Go, Love Vigilantes & AOC!

Record company fleecing fans.....why am I surprised?

I don't understand why people are so crazy over RUN 2...It really wasn't anything extraoardinary...just slightly different drums behind the album version. I only bought it because it had MTO on the B-Side

The original Temptation 7" is a must have though.

To be honest, my take on the 4th single is that the band wanted it... because they didn't want to release Jetstream

However, they never did it live... so go figure.

Im thinking "guilt" will be released somehow. Alot of promotion for it, not being a single. Remixes, and it is available as a ringtone of my phone. So that is my new ringtone.

Yes, it's the UK release date, Monday October 3rd.

i guess it's out with the substance and in with the singles. honestly, it doesn't bother me one way or another whether or not turn is released as a single since i'll never hear it over here anyway!

1)republic is one of their best albums in my opinion. i know that a lot of people won't agree, but i find it listenable all the way through, with strong writing and melodies. whatever. i like it. 2)remixable tracks off of wftsc: i told you so, dracula's castle... come on, they would be much better singles than turn (which i think is a load of shit... maybe i haven't figured that song out yet, but it sounds like nothing special.) even hey now what you doing would be a better single. i say dracula's castle. i know, i know. 3)if you need to sign in before posting, the system puts you back to the home page... then you have to come back and find the thread, find the post you wanted to quote, etc. big waste of time. very frustrating. sometimes i want to post, but because of that, i just dont. is there a good reason for this? something that can be done about it?

Turn is a better song, but Guilt would be a good single because it would have benefited from the multi-remix treatment.

Perhaps the single of Turn will be an extended version backed with Guilt mixes.

At this rate, we'll be getting WFTSC singles right up until the next album.

Yea - right!

i'd ask this on the tech forum. more 'tech' people might notice it there and you'd get a faster answer.

Turn being a single may have had something to do with all of our bitching and moaning. "Oh, they already said at the press conference there will only be three singles." Shut up know-it-all British people. Naysayers be damned. The truth is out there.

As I now own every song as far as I'm aware... what's the point in getting this new singles compilation?? Unless there are some hidden gems i.e. alternative versions, stuff like that. I doubt it very much. I'd probably never have complained about such a compilation if 'THe Best Of', and 'International' hadn't been released in the first place. :\ohwell:

I'm really surprised this is coming out in the UK. Really don't see why the record company couldn't just hang on for another year until the next album is out. What they're claiming will be a "definitive" collection will be out of date in less than a year. If they're using the single mixes, there'll be tons of space for another four singles in a year to 18 month's time.

Hey, Spotnick, can't you ask Warner/London to give us the full list of tracks with details of which mixes they're using, so we're not all pulling our hair out for two months wondering if we'll finally get the vinyl 7 inches on CD? Surely someone there must know whcih mixes have been remastered and pulled from the archives??? Can't help but think this'll be 'Substance' plus the recent single versions... Someone tell us for good, and put me out of my misery. Surely by now they at least know the track running times of this comp??

And there might be a few that were never released on single, and many will probably be remastered.

IMHO, you're getting carried away with this singles matter: the fact that it's called "Singles" (well, doh...) does not mean that we will have the original 7" versions we're all craving for, but just, well, every single New Order has released so far in the versions we all have in the other 387 compilations!

Maybe the couple of Turn petitions we held on here were noticed by the Management. The major plus point will be to hear Turn live when they promote it. If so TOTP will probably be mimed but something like Jonathan Ross (If they could stand being in that mans company again) may see a live rendition before the next batch of gigs.

My dream has come true!!!! Turn!!!! I always thought Turn was one of their top 3 songs ever made. So to all you Guilt fans out there Ah Ah

I hope this isn't a mean joke by the band.

As for not play the song live, I can see why, there is alot of guitars in the song, and Barney most likely is having trouble with it. But who knows maybe it will show up in the next tour? Just like Run wild did.

By the time Turn comes out, the first single for the next cd should be due a couple months later. Maybe we will have no wait between cds!!!

Just hang on there a cotton pickin' minute...

I can't bloody find it now; but I did a thread... 'what should the next single be off WFTSC after the WFTSC single' and GUILT WON. TURN WAS IN 2ND PLACE!

Yeah, I knew that. Not relevant to the point I was making though. They could just hang on until maybe this time next year and release a "more" definitive collection - especially if there won't be another new album for a couple of years after next year's one comes out.

I've a feeling we won't see a brand new album next year, after all...

Well, that press release says: The only way to own all the tracks on Singles would be to have purchased every New Order single released in their career. So, going on that it should be all the original single versions (or 12" versions in some cases perhaps). Surely if 'Item' is coming out, it will correspond with the single versions featured in the videos, more or less - much as the DVD and CD of PSB's 'PopArt' did, albeit with a different running order?

We shall see!

I just hope we finally get the orignal 'Ceremony' on CD at long bloody last. If they are definitely sticking with 7" versions, it has to be the original, as the re-recorded one only came out on 12".

I dare say there will be a sense of disappointment from the moment the first track plays and it's the one we've had on CDs loads of times.

Actually, I prefer the second version, but it'll just make a great change to hear the original on CD for once!

I would have a theory, but that theory is blown away by Blue Monday-88, so I'll pass.

It doesn't make sense, but that's the way it is, I guess they prefered to have it there than to split the Republic singles.

And we all know the band wanted it to be released in 1987, so...

What doesn't make sense to me is the omission of Blue Monday 95 and True Faith 94... although in TF's case, the single version is almost identical to the original, they couldn't include the perfecto edit in there.

As for Blue Monday, I'm not sure there was a non promo single version

For the rest, if the press release is true, I'd expect Ceremony 7" version... but again, it's New Order, so I expect to have some kind of disappointment...

So this isn't the confirmed tracklisting yet then Spotters? Just based on my little list from a few weeks ago, I guess. If it ties in with 'Item', it'll be the album mix of 'Regret' and 'Minimix' of 'Spooky', I'd imagine.

Spotnick wrote: The only way to own all the tracks on ‘Singles’ would be to have purchased every New Order single released in their career.

I don't think so, if you have Substance, The 1994 Best Of, International and the WFTSC album, you already have all these tracks, unless some versions are different (for example the first Ceremony or something). I'm not convinced Turn will be a single... they'd have waited for this compilation if it was... we'd have known if they planned to release it... I don't know, I just see it as some sort of "extra track" (how rare!) to compensate the fact it wasn't a single... but this way people who buy just the compilation hear this album track... it's placed there to say "and on their new album there's also stuff like this", probably to please the American market... If the singles versions are the usual once again nothing special appears on a compilation... another wasted opportunity, but I hope they do release somthing for their 30th anniversary or after the next album... with rarities... Also Technique now is the only album since Brotherhood which wasn't followed by a compilation... this is ironic as probably a compilation after such a successful album would have helped Factory to survive a bit longer...

There are tons of radio edit or single versions I'm not even sure I have, and this will be an opportunity to get them...

(Regret Radio Edit comes to mind)

So this isn't the confirmed tracklisting yet then Spotters? Just based on my little list from a few weeks ago, I guess. If it ties in with 'Item', it'll be the album mix of 'Regret' and 'Minimix' of 'Spooky', I'd imagine.

Andy

I'm hoping for the Minimux, as I would hope for the Perfecto edit of World ;) As for Regret, I'm kind of expecting the album version.

No, I have not received any tracklisting yet, just like the WFTSC single is a mystery!

Yeah, of course, technically the Perfecto Edit of 'World' was the lead track on the UK CD single, but I always think of the Radio Edit as the main version as it was in the UK video.

The only way to own all the tracks on ‘Singles’ would be to have purchased every New Order single released in their career

Or just Substance and Best Of...

But that's neither here nor there.

Actually, I have never seen the video of World with the Radio edit until I bought NewOrderStory... each time I saw it on TV, it was with the Perfecto Edit...

Substance doesn't feature single versions, it features 12" versions...

Best of features album versions.

How many different ways can this pathetic lot flog their back catalogue? Who in the world doesnt have these songs in three or four different forms already? Who in the world will buy this hilariously redundant collection of songs which are growing increasingly tarnished the more the band "adds" to their "legacy" with more appalling new work mixed with the endless regurgitation of their past glories? Whats next? A linkup with a mortgage company for their next tour?

Yeesh...

  Accutally if Nic's right we'll have some versions which are quite rare on CD... probably they'll really use the original 7" versions since I don't see how else they could fit all those songs on two CDs...

If you take the album versions of TPK & BLT, TBTHOG 7", the '95 Baker mix of 1963 and the Substance version for the rest, that should fit

Disc 1

  2. Procession
  3. Everything’s Gone Green
  4. Temptation 87
  5. Blue Monday
  6. Confusion 87
  7. Thieves Like Us
  8. Perfect Kiss (LP)
  9. Subculture
  10. Shellshock
  11. State of Nation
  12. BLT (LP)
  13. True Faith
  14. 1963 ('95 Baker mix)
  15. Touched By the Hand of God (7")

Just let 'em go, AJ. Been hearing this stuff about how bad the band are from you for over half a decade now. Yet one must ask oneself, if you detest them so much, why keep checking their websites and forums for gossip and news..?

Time for closure, I think.

(Sorry, I know we shouldn't encourage him...)
