What was the point of Depeche Mode releasing "The Singles 86>98" in 1998?

Same thing here!

International was the useless release... this one is a real one.

Unless you bought the recent CD singles with 2 tracks only on them, you don't have the single version of all tracks.

And there might be a few that were never released on single, and many will probably be remastered.

Very true... I have ALMOST all of them then. :p Sod it, I'll buy it then.

While entering the discographic information for that compilation, I just realized that it might actually be a good project, if done well, this CAN be a very interested product.

There are tons of radio edit or single versions I'm not even sure I have, and this will be an opportunity to get them...

(Regret Radio Edit comes to mind)

The 'singles' project looks very nice the way you enter it, Spotnick :thumb:

Because Murder wasn't a single in the UK...

Only in Belgium!

So it's UK singles collection, not all singles collection, now i get it. Thanks.:thumb:

So this isn't the confirmed tracklisting yet then Spotters? Just based on my little list from a few weeks ago, I guess. If it ties in with 'Item', it'll be the album mix of 'Regret' and 'Minimix' of 'Spooky', I'd imagine.

I don't think so, if you have Substance, The 1994 Best Of, International and the WFTSC album, you already have all these tracks, unless some versions are different (for example the first Ceremony or something). I'm not convinced Turn will be a single... they'd have waited for this compilation if it was... we'd have known if they planned to release it... I don't know, I just see it as some sort of "extra track" (how rare!) to compensate the fact it wasn't a single... but this way people who buy just the compilation hear this album track... it's placed there to say "and on their new album there's also stuff like this", probably to please the American market... If the singles versions are the usual once again nothing special appears on a compilation... another wasted opportunity, but I hope they do release somthing for their 30th anniversary or after the next album... with rarities... Also Technique now is the only album since Brotherhood which wasn't followed by a compilation... this is ironic as probably a compilation after such a successful album would have helped Factory to survive a bit longer...

I'm hoping for the Minimux, as I would hope for the Perfecto edit of World ;) As for Regret, I'm kind of expecting the album version.

No, I have not received any tracklisting yet, just like the WFTSC single is a mystery!

Yeah, of course, technically the Perfecto Edit of 'World' was the lead track on the UK CD single, but I always think of the Radio Edit as the main version as it was in the UK video.

The only way to own all the tracks on ‘Singles’ would be to have purchased every New Order single released in their career

Or just Substance and Best Of...

But that's neither here nor there.

Actually, I have never seen the video of World with the Radio edit until I bought NewOrderStory... each time I saw it on TV, it was with the Perfecto Edit...

Substance doesn't feature single versions, it features 12" versions...

Best of features album versions.

How many different ways can this pathetic lot flog their back catalogue? Who in the world doesnt have these songs in three or four different forms already? Who in the world will buy this hilariously redundant collection of songs which are growing increasingly tarnished the more the band "adds" to their "legacy" with more appalling new work mixed with the endless regurgitation of their past glories? Whats next? A linkup with a mortgage company for their next tour?

Yeesh...

  Accutally if Nic's right we'll have some versions which are quite rare on CD... probably they'll really use the original 7" versions since I don't see how else they could fit all those songs on two CDs...

If you take the album versions of TPK & BLT, TBTHOG 7", the '95 Baker mix of 1963 and the Substance version for the rest, that should fit

Disc 1

  1. Ceremony
  2. Procession
  3. Everything’s Gone Green
  4. Temptation 87
  5. Blue Monday
  6. Confusion 87
  7. Thieves Like Us
  8. Perfect Kiss (LP)
  9. Subculture
  10. Shellshock
  11. State of Nation
  12. BLT (LP)
  13. True Faith
  14. 1963 ('95 Baker mix)
  15. Touched By the Hand of God (7")

Just let 'em go, AJ. Been hearing this stuff about how bad the band are from you for over half a decade now. Yet one must ask oneself, if you detest them so much, why keep checking their websites and forums for gossip and news..?

Time for closure, I think.

(Sorry, I know we shouldn't encourage him...)
