Poor N.O... They seem to be pushing all the wrong buttons with singles.
What happened to the surprise of a totally new track on a single, instead of an often crappy remix? Hell, the actual SONG's never properly on the single these days.
Am I the only on who feels that way? I mean, they say there are loads of tracks left over, so why not use one of them?! N.O singles are just becoming boring...

They preferred to keep them for the 2006 album instead of putting them on sigle.
Result? the singles charted in the exact same patern as Get Ready's singles... so people are not buying them for the b-sides!
I loved the B-sides, but they haven't done them in years and never really did many, so most fans are used to it, still would like a weird intrumental track along the lines of don't do it.

this is sad the B sides don't get through "new material"… Again the same old problems with the record company?
They should be more successfull.
At least they are now doing the next best thing with BSides- remixes of old songs.
A great idea; although if they were more prolific, as a group, i'd much prefer original B's.
i can see both sides to the argument. new tracks as B-sides do make the singles more appealing and i do wish they would keep doing it.... but a new album next year? i think id go for that over some B-sides.
The B-sides from Get Ready were better than most of the tracks on GR IMO so i'm hoping next years' album (if it arrives next year) will be stronger than WFTSC??
An instrumental on a single would still be nice though.

precisely - the last album did have b-sides, this one doesn't, but they are releasing a new album "next" year
Well there's another kind of B-sides. Groups like Blur, The Fall etc. often had recent live tracks on their B-sides, remixes of old songs etc.
Why not use this way, at least? No harm to anybody, no much effort either :)
BTW, the new set of NO's 7" singles falls in this kind of category.
warners will probably put out a b-sides compilation at some point during their quest to rape and pillage the NO back catalogue!
But if those extra tracks were held back, resulting in an album only 11 tracks long, then they can't be that good. Plus, we'll have another album with the WFTSC sound...
I'd rather have a combination of Get Ready's and Republic's, WFTSC's too mainstream-sounding.

A 7" B-Side compilation might be good because there are 7" edits of b-sides not available anywhere... Lonesome Tonight, The Perfect Pit, goes on to Fine Line, Don't Do It, etc.
I'd got for that any day! the New Order b-side collection is quite awesome, I don't think there is one bad back in there.

I'm afraid you are part of a minority... for most people here, Republic is New Order's worst effort, and Get Ready isn't too far.
Not my opinion, but indeed the one of the majority.
Something that I thought was a great idea by REM (or Warner) even though they're not my favourites, was:
Release a series of singles after an album (in this case, Automatic For The People) and on the CD singles were the 'radio edit' with two or three live tracks. There were five singles released (you got a box/sleeve holder with the first) and if you bought all the singles, you ended up with a complete live, unedited gig made up of the extra tracks.
That would suit New Order and the fans rather well - a previously unreleased complete gig along with the singles.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the list Spot. I've promptly created the playlist in my iPod. I've really enjoyed the resurgence of 12" b-side collections, especially from Fat Bob and Siouxsie.

Had New Order have proper songs! Hardly it's possibly for a non-fan to listen to this electro clash all the way, especially having in mind such cut-up tracks as Dubvulture, I Don't Care Dub, Shellcock, Touched By The Hand of Dub, Fine Line, World Dub etc. They ain't proper songs and would marr 1963, Mesh, Behind Closed Doors.
Besides, if we go by this logic, we have to include any "B" sides of Someone Like You, Krafty et.c - which are just remixes in the way it was with Dubvulture, I Don't Care Dub etc.
I mean comercially it would flop, and Warner hardly will release anything like that.

Most of us here would like to get those tracks on CD, but as someone said, a compilation featuring them would divebomb. Better for London to include them on some sort of bonus disc, as they did with 'Retro'.
Realistically, what I'd love to see is a single bonus disc with 'The Singles' as some sort of limited edition... Are you listening London/Warner..?! Here's my suggested tracklisting to accompany the first two discs rather nicely:

That'd do for me, matey - get all the "proper" B-sides together, and chuck a couple of the cool 'dub' 7" mixes in there too. Plus it'd follow the chronological and 'radio versions' theme of discs one and two. Would clock in at about 79 minutes.

I was about to say, why didn't anyone mention Such a Good Thing? Where the FUCK did that one come from, anyway? I would have preferred the songs to be the other way round to be honest ;)
It could have fitted quite nicely on Get Ready..

Was the B-side of the re-released World In Motion in 2002. Along with Murder, I think these is the only New Order singles to ever be released in one format only.
