In the NO Story of '93 I remember in the interview with Barney (when he was having his Grade 1 haircut at the back
) that he was asked to describe a new order fan. His response was that he felt the typical new order fan falls into 2 types: spotty student or football fan - and I guess I can see this. As I started to get really heavily into NO in my last year of college and first year at Uni I guess I fall into the spotty student category. What about you?

Although i'm not spotty and not a student and not a football 'fan'.
I love footie (but aint no hoo-li-gans) and I dont have spots, so it has to be footie fan.
Mind you, being a Forest fan and reading the horrors of the England team in the paper (I cant watch them nowadays), Im kinda losing interest in the game.
We've done this poll before, me thinks. Though I'll be buggered if I'm gonna go look for it.
Doesn't he actually say 'hooligan' as opposed to 'fan' though?
I used to be spotty (and a JD/New Order fan). Then I was a spotty football 'fan' (and a JD/New Order fan). Now I'm a football 'fan' (and a JD/New Order fan).
I bet Shug is laughing his arse off at last night's result...

I'm still laughing at the image of wee Shuglet waving the Red Hand of Ulster around, cheering on Norn Iron. ![]()
Didn't the Northern Irish threaten to shoot the captain of Celtic? ![]()

You mean Neil Lennon?
It was Loyalists who weren't happy that a member of the N.Ireland team was playing for Celtic.
Yup. I'm always a bit disturbed at the divisions in Scotland - my best mate's brother would KILL (literally) anyone wearing a Rangers shirt if they tried entering his house. Oh, they live in Glasgow by the way!
Must admit, I grin happily whenever Rangers lose, but I wouldn't wish death on anyone.

I grin immensly when both Celtic and Rangers get beat.
Go on the Thistle!!!![]()
But then Scottish football is usually just funny anyway.
Until they look more likely to qualify than England and Wales and 'Northern' Ireland...
If England can't beat Wales comfortably, get thrashed by Denmark and are beaten by NI, there's NO WAY they'll qualify facing Poland and Austria, yet the papers seem to have overlooked that... (sorry, totally off-topic)

FINALLY, someone agrees with me on this.
In England, we've been laughing at Scottish football for years mate!
Apart from the times when they beat us at Wembley... Bet YOU were cheering last night!
No. I thought the world was coming to an end.
Northern Ireland WON...
That can't be right.
This from the team that couldn't score for four years.
Plus, if you think Scottish football is funny, come and watch a N. Ireland premiership match.
Your local pub team could beat them 12-0 easily.
Shug was indeed pissing himself last night! That's gotta be the first time we've won and Engerland got beat since, erm......the last time we played Engerland at Wembley......wait a minute, that was the last time we played Engerland :D
After us getting knocked out by the giants of Bratislava in the Qualifiers, I will have to put ma feet up and enjoy Rangers getting ko'd of the Champs League at the first hurdle - then I can concentrate on having a good laugh at England in the World Cup, cos even after our recent heroics I cannae see us making it.
Anyways.....I was spotty, I was a student, thankfully them days have long gone.
Always been a football fan ![]()
BTW - NI were magic last night, fair enough they were destroyed in the first half, but they didnae conceed and more than held their own in the second half.....it could easily have been 2-0 if not 3.....ok 3-1 cuz Betty hit the bar in the first half ;)
Can I add anymore fuel to the fire lads? ![]()
i'd be a student for the rest of my life if i had the money to pay for it, although i only had the rare, lonely zit until i moved to florida in my late 20s when i began to have my first periodic clusters. i didn't get into football until i was in my early 20s, and while i'm a fan i'm still learning as i go.
a student fan?
a football student?
super cally are fantastic celtic are attrocious.
as for the poll - neither. thus proving barney wrong.
Football- I'm surprised at the result so far though ! Where have all these students come from ?

Indeed, where the fcuk have all these students come from?! Everyone hates students. Even I did, when I was one!
I heard that Andy Gorham (of 2 Andy’s fame) was at some “meet and greet” Red Hand function up north – and was fortunate enough to “bone” (using the parlance of our times) an attractive young lady. Unfortunately, she was also the daughter of the local Loyalist lord – and Andy was sent back on the boat and told if he ever showed his face on the Island ever again he would be killed.
Lovely story. Is it true? I’m sure the Shugs can verify.
p.s. much as I'd like to say otherwise, Im a spotty student - but a hooligan fan too!

So good you posted it thrice!
"Two Andy Gorams! There's only Two Andy Gorams!" ![]()
I was at Hibs game once. Goram was playing for the opposition (post Gers) and every time he touched the ball half the people around me stood up and crossed themselves!!

In fairness, Barney did make this comment more than a decade ago: I think if he was asked now what makes up New Order's audience the answer would be more accurate:
Barney: "Ex-football hooligans, proud dads, the occasional wife, them viking fuckers and various fortysomethings holding their stomachs in"
Hooky: "And Ness"

Certainly is true, during one of their investigations the Daily Record also found he had flutes on plynths and various regalia in his lounge room - he was also partial to banging barely legal birds in camper vans and dressing in their lingerie as well as fighting his wife - the papers had a field day......as did we with some of the songs that were made up by us for Old Firm games.
There's only 2 Andy Goram's is a classic though ![]()

It kicked off at O/T when Gorum came on as reserve keeper for Utd a couple of years back. Coz of his 'political' connections outraged plastic paddies started creaming abuse at him...so started the predictable fights. Fuckin idiots the lot of 'em. As far as I'm concerned he was just a fairly average keeper, couldnt give a shit what he thinks, just as he couldnt give a shit what i think.
If only this poll was in '85
Me thinks the outcome would be different.
I must admit to being shocked by the poll results, I didnt know New Order were The fookin Smiths.

I've met a fair few people from here and - thankfully - none of them have really qualified as 'spotty students' so fcuknose where all these SS'ers are suddenly appearing from?!

Excellent point - the meet up at The Audley before Hyde Park had to be the biggest gathering of fans from this site (and a couple of lads from WIM) I cannae remember seeing 1 spotty student out of the hundred or more people in there......mind you, the average age of the crowd in the pub must've been 35![]()

Mature students whose acne has cleared up, then?

think the headline was actually 'Super Cally Go Ballistic - Celtic are Atrocious' also think Barney actually said NO fans were either 'spotty students or football hooligan types'(not fans)- perhaps thats why he's been wearing all that Stone Island gear recently to appeal to the hoolies:D
