So when exactly did New Order as a "lads band" become New Order as a "blokes band"?
Perhaps around the time the "lads" developed beer bellies and hairless heads? I suppose it's bound to happen if a band stays around that long.

Depends which version you are referring to.
Remember, the one on WFTSC is Stuart Price aka Jacques Lu Cont's mix of it... not what the band had in mind.
We had one alternative done by Mac Quayle, but we don't know about the demo they did.. I'd be curious to hear that.
I've not heard many New Order demos in my life (in fact, I think beside the early versions of Ceremony, the Let's Go demo and 60 Miles An Hour, I don't think of any other)

I think that New Order should be loved by anybody who likes them; male or female, gay or straight or whatever, older person or younger person. Oh and judging guys by their masculinity is ridiculous. It doesn't matter what kind of guy a guy is to like New Order.
Must be a Blokes' band. When I visited the local Tower Records they had WFTSC up with Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche, and Bronski Beat on the sale display with the sparkly cardboard rainbow on it.

So does this make them sort of the musical equivalent of a Yorkie? 
I don't really know any women who like New Order, but then I only know of one bloke who likes them. Maybe the writer was saying that they're not a stereotypical 'chicks' band with sappy lyrics or 'go girl!' messages? Or he's narrow minded, whichever!
