I just think that new order in the 80's was very ambiguous regarding their sexuality. Comparable to the Velvet Underground in that sense. Some of Barney's lyrics to me sometimes sound homsexually theme. You also have to admit they have some gay disco songs.
My favorite bands have always have a sexually ambiguous nature to them. Or the singer was gay. This is coming from a straight guy.
This is a very good thread. Me friends and I (all straight) have often commented on it. Perfect Kiss is so gay (but a great song). The lyrics, the into, etc.
To dismiss the idea is foolish and ignorant (IMO).

The fact that they do appeal to the gay crowd is evident to me at 80's night at the local club I've started hanging out at. NO does have a gay/lesbian following at the club--when BM or BLT comes on, everyone starts dancing--gay and straight. I have yet to go to an 80's night where NO isn't played. I don't know if I'd say they are the "gayest" straight band--I think Madonna or Soft Cell have that one covered. I'd have to agree that NO have the dance appeal thing covered though. Just my .02.
I was watching a NO video with a friend who isn't that familiar with them.
Friend: Are they gay?
Me: No.
Friend: Then they must have done lots of club drugs!
Who cares if they are bisexual or even a foursome damn it.
It's the music we enjoy.
And I'm not sure Jack, Heather, Grace, Mathilda, Finlay and all the others would be happy to learn their parents are gay

A lot of Barnye's lyrics are genderless and some are about women, some are about men + Barney (in the old days) had that 'too cute to be straight' look about him.
Obviously he's married and straight now, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Sumner has a bisexual streak... and so what if he does / did ???????????

Heaven isn't a gay club. It does indeed, have gay 'nights' but it also has straight (if there's such a thing?) nights. I'm sure every other club in England has the odd night to attract the pink pound. I've been to Heaven dozens of times but can count on the fingers of hand how many of those nights were 'gay'.

Indeed, it might have Men Only nights. NIGHTS, not every night. As Depthcharge pointed out, he saw Digweed there when he was on these shores. In the 90's I always used to attend Megatripolis, and a mate of mine still runs Trance Generation at the Soundshaft. None of which are 'gay' nights.
Suggesting that New Order are 'in touch with their feminine side' because they once played a venue 20 years ago which has 'gay' nights seems a bit extreme to me. In the 70's Heaven was home to London's first roller-disco. Does this mean New order are also big in skate circles?!
For the uinitiated, London's biggest gay night is G.A.Y. It's held at the Astoria. Check out how just how many bands are playing the Astoria these days - should we presume gay links as well? And a fair few of us from here have seen Hooky DJ at Turnmills in the past year or two. Turnmills is also home to Trade, DTPM, Fist and FF. Make of that what you will.
Some people here, you really do need to get out a little more cos you're thinking way too much. You knows it. 
I wouldn't say NO are the 'gayest' straight band, but if they are it doesn't matter- I doubt they are bothered much by the sexuality of their unit shifters...
They are certainly gay friendly and many of their lyrics are sexually ambiguous- all adds to the intrigue of the band!

Certainly Gay friendly alright.
I remember throwing some serious shapes ('dancing') to Temptation in an underage niteclub called The Appartment in Dublin back in around 1983. Got my arse pinched(unusual in itself!) & turned to find it was a bloke who did it - that was my intro to 'NO gay friendly'
Lots of times since people have said that Bernard looked gay - but then they said that about me too (until i ran off with their girlfriends
