I have it.

It looks official (includes a WB logo, US address, and ID 'pro-cd-9141').

Sounds amazing.

Can anyone tell me the story behind it? Is it one of the most convincing bootlegs ever made, or is there more to it?

I believe "Ceremony" is the original 7" version One site lists the release date as 1997, but there's precious little info on this.

It is not official, however its a great addition to any collection. The person who put it together did a fantastic job.

Frankly, I can't see how it can't be.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on one 2 weeks ago, also from ebay. I like the treatment on the jewel case but didn't care for the blank cd so I printed my own. I also used the WB Records logo instead of the standard WB logo.

I must say the quality is superb. I have the Vanishing Point instrumental from the official CD but this version on EFR is recorded louder than the original with no degradation of sound. I read somewhere that the version of Ceremony is from the 12inch but I haven't bothered to play my 12 inch copy and the 7 inch copy to see which it is. How did they get The Happy One? Amazing!

I wish whoever made this would make EFR-2 and include The Perfect Pit, Subvulture, True Dub, Touched by the Hand of Dub, Rocking Carol, Ode To Joy, World (pharmacy dub), Someone Like You (one of the mixes), and any other hard to impossible to get on CD songs.

What sort of quality is 'Vicious Circle (The New Order Mix)'? That was only ever out on cassette, so surely you can tell if that's a boot by the reduced sound quality??

Pretty damn good! If this was taken from the cassette, there is absolutly no hiss anywhere. There is no muddiness in the music. Sound quality is excellent. I suspect that this boot may be taken from the original recording tapes because the quality is so damn good...or who ever put this together had some professional studio equipment at their disposal.

Yep. It got canned when Warner deemed it too expensive, as Rob Gretton wanted it to include every single that New Order released and their B-sides (beats me why Depeche Mode, Cocteau Twins and others got to release singles box-sets and New Order couldn't...)

Recycle was going to be a multi CD box set with each single having it's own disc with B-sides/mixes and CD-Rom video stuff. Would have been quite cool, although it must be said that CD-Rom video is rubbish and we'd have still wanted a DVD release for the videos. A bit ahead of it's time really.

Well, both the Propellerheads' and Saville's logos were "lifted" from the official logo that comes in every recycled material (check your milk-box in your fridge... )

I believe the person who is responsible for this used vinyl, cassette and CD sources for the material but paid to have it professionally mastered. Not sure who should get credit for the artwork.

The aforementioned person may lurk (or even post) here. I'll let him divulge any add'l details.

Are you sure about this? I don't have the CD with me, but I have both versions on iTunes, imported from my Ruined in a Day NUOCD2 CD on the same day, two minutes apart.

I think it's the Mike Haas mix that's cassette only.

Nope - the Haas mix is on the RIAD CD single. The NO mix is the one only available on cassette single. CTB

Well if the compiler of "Excerpts from recycle" is lurking about or someone who knows them, i'd be very interested in procuring a copy if someone can point me in the right direction. I also found a similar fan-made compilation that had a lot of rare mixes such as the blue monday 7" mix and the original ceremony, called "international 2" and it was 4 cds.

Obviously you can tell certain tracks are vinyl sourced (The intro of MTO reveals some hiss/crackles) but overall it wasn't enough to put me off.

Uh, I think that's the original loops with the hiss/crackle.

The NO mix of "Ruined in a Day" is UK cassette-only as others have mentioned and I believe the "Vaninshing Point" instrumental makeout mix on this Excerpts disc is EQed differently than the original version. Sounds nicer. Oh, and I believe the version of Ceremony is the *original* 12" version without Gillian.

Yes, it's really amazing. I've been listening to it non-stop. I'm wondering where the full length "The Happy One" is from. It's the only track that sounds slightly compressed, still, I've never heard it full length before and it's really very very good.

You really think there would be enough material for Vol. 2? Off the top of my head I can only think of a few tracks that are not on CD or are rare. Well, except for a lot of the dubs, but how fun would a disc of those be? :)

I've tried to list the tracks that haven't been released on CD. However, there are a few that were released on Canadian CD singles back in the late '80s and a few that have never been offically released (but are generally available). I also included several 7" versions which are expected to be included on the upcoming compilation "Singles." I'm sure the list isn't perfect so please feel free suggest any necessary revisions.

Anyways, The Happy One is cd quality since it has a cd version, it's been discussed to death in ceremony - the list. What happened to ceremony? Moving on, some guy @ Rob's Records gave one to me, it's a one track promo with The Happy One. Don't, please don't email me about this.

There are also several "local" edits, like the Canadian Edit of BLT, the Benelux Edit of Subculture and Japanese edit of Blue Monday...

"Singles" should solve a few of those, if released properly..

Vicious Circle (New Order Mix) and the Japanese 7" version of Blue Monday are on EFR. C'mon Nic, I listed the WFTSC (Band Mix) and the upcoming 7" b-sides:D

I didn't list the Canadian edits nor any Benelux edits. I'll let someone more in the know sort through those.

Evil Dust doesn't sound as good as the version on Out of Order, does it? It could be me but i think it isn't as bright as the 3:35 version. Tony Garcia mix of World is excellent. The stars on this disc are the 2 b-side mixes from the mid-80s, Perfect Kiss (7inch inst.) and Shellcock (12"). Both sound great and add new life to the played to death vocal mixes.

I once had a copy of that full-length The Happy One, but lost it months ago. Anyone able to share? Email is in my profile.

What is the source for the Tony Garcia mix of World? I've never heard of it...

One "vinyl only" track that deserves CD release is the instrumental version of Reunited In A Day, from the RIAD 12" promo. I've got a quality transfer of it (cheers Andy Discography) and it's a peach.

And, while I think of it...

Is the home-made BM Japanese edit accurate? I've long since lost the low quality mp3 of the real thing, but I thought it started on the second of the four-beat drum breaks.

1. The patched together one from the video.
2. The TV broadcast of Hooky (sitting down?) with his bass & a frame of synths behind him. Introduce by THW, if I remember correctly.

Is there a genuine studio version going around?

If so a copy would be most graciously received.

I had a large chunk of it, but there were a few gems I wanted better versions of. The sound quality is excellent overall, with the exception of "Love Juice", which is pretty rough. Is let's go with lyrics like the mp3? Or is it clearer?

I have "Let's Go" with lyrics on CD...it was on the "1963" CD single 1. I have the version in the funky box...

Ah, but there's another version of Let's Go with different lyrics and melody, recorded around the time of Low-Life, but I only have a really crap quality mp3. Never known anyone to have a CD quality of this version.

'Waiting for so long, waiting for so long...' is the chorus I think.

Got that on a tape at the time - the sound quality is exactly the same as the mp3. I have a lossless transfer from the tape but it's hardly an improvement. I quizzed Hooky about it in my letter writing days, but he claimed not to remember recording it.

You never know, it may turn up. No-one was ever expecting to get the full Elegia, were they...

I was talking about Let's Go #2, not produced by Arthur Baker; So far we have 3, the original instrumental, from Salvation, Let's Go #2 and Let's Go #3 (and its variations [with/without fade etc] from (best of) 1995 era.

I'm also looking for Brutal instrumental, whose mp3 hurts my ears. I pretty confident it will surface on eBay, if it hasn't yet...
