NME Sirens` review:
"One hesitates to fire slingshots at giants, but this is... half-decent at best,a purfunctory doodle of Hooky bass and big, bright synth washes from a band who we love for their ecstatic-with-a-capital-E masterpieces.Lke Echo & The Bunnymen recently it seems unfair to knock them for unleashing a mid-level New Order single,but given youve got the likes of Erasure and Bananarama releasing fabulous singles right now (sure ,whatever,dont believe us then) its difficult to greet this with much whoop and holler.Especially when its lyrics are a load of old nautical-metaphor toss.Sirens are so 80s."
i got as far as 'erasure nad bananarama releasing fab sigles right now' and decided its all crap,so didnt bother with the rest.

Didn't expect that. The tune is held in pretty high esteem by both band and fanbase. Surely it kicks Krafty and Jetsteam's butts fair and square?
Perhaps London saw it coming, hence the limited release.

Thats what I would think - better song, more radio-friendly, & more likely to be picked up by non-fans / occasional-fans

I'm starting to understand why they didn't push a CD release and included "Turn" on "Singles" if all radio stations and critic reacted that way.
However, I can't believe it, as it's by far my favorite track on the album...
What a joke! Sirens is a really good song. Brings a little tear to my eye when I hear it. Who's the spotty adolescent who done the review? He probably thinks Interpol and The Editors are hugely original. Anyway, the NME said the latest Oasis album was really good and probably thinks the latest Franz Ferdinand single is brilliant, rather than sounding like a right load of tired old tosh. Jesus! The youth of today, I don't know.
wow. i thinnk it's one of the strongest songs on the album (krafty, WFTSC, GIAUE, turn). my only thumbs down is the format in which it's released!
n.m.e have been building the mighty doves up for years.last week they had a go at doves new single.
When I was a lad and bought it, the NME had stories about the Stone Roses every week until 1992-1993 saying they were working on a new album or one of them had been to the toilet. I've always thought of it as a magazine that greased up to and overly praised bands because it/writers wanted to seem cool and with it. Pity most of them who write for it are and were nerds though. Now it looks like a slightly downmarket version of Hello! Not very punk rock or alternative that, is it. The NME will say 'Lets bring down capitalism and how terrible New Labour are' whilst at the same time endorse bands that sell their songs to the highest bidder so it can be used in a mobile phone advert. What a bunch of tossers!

Yup, the once great NME truly is a pile of shite these days. Yes, buy the Doves record: it's marvellous, and Jimi Goodwin has a beard.

bunch of shit. i think the journalist was probably just trying to be a douchebag because it's not considered proper for their kind to actually enjoy good singles.
It's a bad review that doesn't make sense by a reviewer who doesn't know what he's talking about. Just typical, now I can buy NME in Zagreb it's useless.
Crap. It's one of their best songs.
A thought aside... I wish they had released Rin Wild as a single - I would have loved to hear critics' and fans' reactions :)
