I always think that mr.dickens gets unfair criticism of his lyrics. Sure sometimes ,he's full of cliches, and reacuring themes but sometimes i think simple is sweet sometimes. I think his sincerity overcomes any shortcoming that he has as a songwriter.

I wouldnt like NO if i didnt appreciate his lyrics.

I think he should be very proud of these songs.

  1. Loveless- I think it is his most personal song. A good or bad breakup, however you maylook at it.

This is an excellent "watch any fool you will take'

2 wftsc- love the references to the sea and the mythic sirens. Sounds like he could start a novel.

  1. Thieves like us- Sure it might sound chessey, but his sincerity does it here for me.

  2. Get the message- here i think he writes a perfect pop song.Electronic's ,usually in my imho, sum doesnt equal its part. But here it does. Johnny Marr's guitar is amazing in this one.

  3. Temptation- I cant even get into it.

Of course, their are others, these songs dont reflect which ones i think are the best. Just among the best.

An interesting topic as I'm always paying much more attention to the lyrics than the melody. Absolute masterpieces: Doubts even here, Sunrise and As it is when it was.

One of the things that I love about New Order is because of the lyrics. It is writing that can be interpreted many different ways depending on how you are feeling while you're listening to a New Order song.

Songs that I think Barney should be proud of are "Special, Regret, Siren's Call, Vanishing Point, Temptation, Procession".

Heck, there's just too much to list. Some songs DO suffer from the writing though, but for the most part, it's how the songs make you feel while you're listening to them that matters most.

barney's inadequate voice and awkwardness makes NO endearing to me.

I don't think he's either.

Perhaps he would be considered in those terms in Brooklyn, but we're all like that in Manchester.

I think Temptation is on the top with Leave Me Alone as a close second. Siren's is def up there...There's plenty more but I can't name em all

Temptation, the majority of Technique, Age of Consent, YSF, Leave Me Alone, Love Vigilantes, Perfect Kiss, Thieves Like Us, True Faith, Procession, Lonesome Tonight-really top notch.

Though didn't the band collaborate on most of the lyrics for PCL?

Everyone trashed Krafty, but as with Regret, I enjoyed its simple honesty.

WFTSC is great too. Shame it's received lukewarm reviews. It's the least contrived track on the album, it's fluid lyrically and musically, simultaneously self-referential and mature.

You should of added Confusion to this list, not the one everyone knows, but the original song.

It would be easier to list songs Barney shouldnt be proud of.That list would be pretty damn short.Draculas Castle would be in there. At the top.And maybe Shellshock.

lonesome tonight, all day long, nearly all of tecnique.

there's hardly any lyrics that I don't like but RTS makes me cringe, I love the chuck it in cos it fits attitude he sometimes has, ie it beats arrithmatic, adds to the feel of the songs and proves that barney still has a sense of humour, even though he probably wrote them at 5.00 am while completely bladdered.

BYT does he say twat at the end of loveless, I always thought he did and it fits with the song and his state of mind at the time.

Again, great thread, much better than my last one, I sincerely appologise, i was completely uninspired to do anything interesting!!!

Yes, I do. I like the remixes better, but I like the album version as well.

Well..Hmmmmm. I like the intro leading up to when Barney starts singing.I just think its a weak melody.Uninspiring New Order .Its just a fairly flat song all round for me.Maybe i just got off on the wrong foot with it back in February.

I listened to it last night and it occured to me how it sounds totallly like something off Raise The Pressure.Although that album wasn`t all bad.Just a few songs on it were rave dad.

RTP is something I never listen to.

Perhaps M can change your mind about Dracula's Castle. My recollection is that she likes it quite a bit.
