Can someone, preferably a fellow musician, explain to me the difference between Run and Run2? Are the guitar arrangements different? Synths different? Is the music video for Run, an edit of Run, or the actual Run2?

Also, are the 'oooh, oooh' bits at the end of 'Thieves' instrumental version found on Substance also present on the 7" edit? It's a nice touch.

Finally, is the 7" of Temptation purely an edit of the 12", or is it a different recording from the same year? What about Temptation '98? Was that done in the studio?

Thanks to whoever answers these questions.

A lot of questions there, but I'll give it a shot:

  1. Run2 differs from the Technique version of Run in that it's a re-structured version - there is more Hooky in the intrumental bit, and the chorus is reprised after the instrumental break. It's also about 1 minute shorter than the Technique version. I think it's safe to say that Run2 is the version you see on the filmclip. I think it's essentially an edit of the Technique version, but the levels are slightly different, and the snare sound is also more 'dry'. There was also a Run2 remix, which was an entirely different beast again, but that will just confuse issues...

  2. Not too sure about the 7" edit of Thieves, though I thought the "oohs" were only on the Instrumental version....we'll find out soon enough when "The Singles" is released.

  3. I'm fairly sure the 7" of Temptation was a seperate recording to the 12" (but I may be wrong). The 7" has that little bottom string guitar hammer-on at the start (over the sequenced bit, before Hooky and Steve start) that Barn loves to put on all the live versions...obviously this isn't on the 12", as it fades in.

  4. The 98 studio version of Temptation is a completely different recording (from 1998, funnily enough), and it's great too I might add. You can get this on Disc 5 of Retro, it's probably the best the song has sounded IMHO.

Does that help? CTB :bear:

Certainly does...so with Item folks will be getting Run2 I gather, even if it doesn't appear on Singles.

I remember watching some blurry clip of 'Thieves Like Us' on this site, I presume from top of the tops or something, and it was a short version with Barney getting right the 'ooh, ooh' bits at the end.
