Not only did my free fucking record holder not come through the post, there isnae a fucking virgin anywhere near Corby to purchase the 7"s (I'm talking about the single here)

I am not fucking amused, can we have that on record (pun naturally intended)

And to make it worse......I havnae got the CD(s) yet.

You've gotta laugh.

Three years? - you're a true fan:clap: :D

So it is! :(

Fuck me, London have done badly here. Surely even your average cynical record company marketing department would realise "the kids" would be far more interested in a couple of CD singles rather than a set of seven inches? It's a "convenient vs. inconvenient medium to play" sort of thing. The more convenient formats you release the single on the more your track will be heard and ascend the charts? You could say no matter what London does fans will moan but I for one would've been singing their praises if the single was made available on CD or DVD from the outset. Perhaps if that were the case we'd be looking at a top ten or at least top twenty hit.

Great song, great single, sabotaged by record company incompetence over the format!

Shame... :nonono:

How can anyone be disappointed with 21 in the charts. When was the last time a vinyl only single got so high? Anyway, I don't think the CD's would have got so high; hardly anyone would buy all 3 CDs

...but if the CD was issued the same week as the 3x7"s just think of how higher it could have charted!!

Perhaps now the only hope is the single doesn't drop out of the charts like a stone in traditional fashion cos the second format is out tomorrow and every NO fan should get it just to perhaps give it an extra week's stay of execution in the 40.

This has happened in the past when Regret was issued on 7" and 12" only the first week and the single charted at 11, then when the CD followed a week later, the record went up to number 4 in week two.

Ditto 1963 - it came out in one format, thus charting at 37 then when the second CD came out the week after, the single climbed 16 places to 21 the next week.

I think World (Price Of Love) had the same thing happen to it as well - 27 the first week, then up to 13 the next.

These three singles remain the only ones New Order have released since 1992 which have gone UP the charts in the second week. It's really unprecedented when you think about it and the reason must be obvious as they seem to have an explanation as outlined above. Who knows if WFTSC might do the same?

But then, I think we're already resigned to the inevitable happening next weekend, don't you reckon? ;)

Very easily and it wouldn't have been 3 CDs, just a 2 track CD1 for £2 then a CD2 Maxi single or DVD. Even less would have bought all 3 seven inches than both CDs so this has been a disaster for London Records in terms of pushing the single as high as it could possibly go. It was like deliberate sabotage restricting it to a single format :( since according to a promo e-mail the single is now deleted, it has no chance of rising higher in the charts because no-one can buy it (a slim chance I know) Even with this pitiful 2 track CD single, the whole release will be forgotten quickly by the charts.

As fans we can observe it's great a vinly-only release got to this chart position or we can voice our concern so the record label hopefully never handle another New Order single in this manner again  I know which I'd rather do.

i think the 7" only release is a unique idea. reasons:

  1. it's something different for the fans.

  2. it appears that the record label isn't particularly concerned with chart postition, which means the band probably has more say in the single's release (always a good sign).

  3. i'm sure they'll pop up on MP3, so no worries.

does this mean we'll be treated to another exciting performance on TOTP :D ?

I ain't pissed off with the chart position - I am pissed off I didnae get my free slipcase and the fact I'd have to travel 40 odd miles to the nearest place to get the fucking singles.

This is the first release since 1989 I havnae been able to get my hands on and I am not happy about it.

My amazement that it's in the charts is even more so given this...

Did you register late for the gatefold Shug?

Is the CD single still coming?

Got the singles through HMV online, didn't get the free slipcase though. I know we're not UK but we're usually included in UK promotions. I thought it was clever of Warners to release the single as 3 7" singles as I don't think the CDs would have charted. Also the slipcases was a great idea as it gave the record company an idea of how many records to press.

True; it is a good innovation looking at it now. Maybe they miscalculated the sales thou' given Shug's experience; or maybe his postman nicked it! :ignore:

I registered for the slipcase as soon as David put the link on WIM, so fuck knows what happened to it.

I thought there were CD's coming out, but maybe I've caught the wrong end of yet another stick.

Either way - I have nae singles and nae slipcase. I'm still as pissed off now as I was when I posted last night.

Seems a bit odd then- I registered the same day as well.

Maybe it didn't go through properly- I had to register twice; I got an error message on the first attempt. Only got one gatefold; if I had two i'd give you one (-heh- the gatefold I mean...).

I'm also totally confused about the CD single thing. My understanding is that it was happening, then it wasn't, then it was with a DVD single and now it isn't!?

:confused2:

Fucking hell !! Is it just me or does London Rec. went nuts ??? I can't complain myself as I did get my slipcase (and did receive my 2X 3- 7" from 1o1CD absolutely MINT,
by the way). But, I just can't believe that the record company did such a mess for the fans in Britain itself... As the said slipcases where for inland orders delivery alone. And, as of today, I'm still reading that quite a lot of you Fellow Fans aren't served whatsoever. Jeezzz, it's desperate. My best to you all, Didier

When I called in at Manchesters HMV (Market Street) at the weekend on one of my rare visits - they still had stacks of all three WFTSC 7" singles. Maybe he could give their shop a ring and ask them to keep copies for him or sumthing?

I've read both this thread and the "Number 21 on 7" singles alone - unbelievable" thread.

Although my experience of receiving the 7" slipcase (I was lucky) may not be the same as some, I was very disappointed with the recent performances of the two biggest retailers in my current nearest city.

One failed to remember to stack the vinyl shelves on the Monday (26th), and STILL hadn't got the three 7" 'WFTSC' singles when I visited the city on the Tuesday morning?!?

The other has (also) consistantly failed to stock sufficient Simple Minds CD singles, PVD singles.

I'm wondering whether I'm going to find any Depeche Mode CD singles tomorrow.

Standards are clearly slipping. But in the end, quality music of integrity is going to be the loser in the long term.
