Worst NO single

My Get Ready poll was kinda fun, so it's time for a new poll. What is the worst NO single? List your top 5 choices, from worst to 5th worst. Only entries with 5 titles will be counted. Number 1 on each list will get 5 points, Number 2 will get 4, etc. I'll tally everything up in a few days or so. This could be interesting. Only songs that were released as singles count, naturally. And only the single version of a song should be considered. No 12" or album version.

Personally, I don't think they have released 5 crap singles. They have done some average ones but its difficult to choose 5 'worst' ones. Spooky or 60mph are probably the most average of the lot but still retain a certain charm.

Some of the singles were only released on 12" initially - BM, Thieves and Confusion spring to mind.

I didn't say 5 crap singles. I said 5 worst. That means which ones were the least appealing. This doesn't mean they have no appeal at all. I think we can learn something about the band, their music, and their choices from this.

I just hope they play World in Motion before this Aussie tour is over, 'cos I'll be down the front waving the George Cross!!!!!! An encore at the final gig in Perth will suffice. My five are:

4. Blue Monday (overplayed/over released for the masses)
5. True Faith (1963 should have been the A-side)

5. Run Wild (if they actually ARE making it a single). If not, I guess Fine Time...

Its interesting how Thieves is getting such a bad press - I think its one of their finest moments.

Far too many people are putting shellshock in their lists.... what's wrong with it? The 12" version is great. Just love the backing vocals: "All i get from you is sha-shaaaa"

I agree with that, too. "It's never enough until your heart stops beating" is one of my favorite NO lines.

Guess that I should add that the first two choices are the only 2 NO singles that I never play anymore, or put on compilations, etc. The other three I will happily pull out and listen to a lot of the time; it's just that in the NO singles table, there's not a lot of difference to me between Nos.4 through 15, or whatever the total # is.

Thieves Like Us is easily up there in the best five tracks. Play the instrumental version that appeared on the flip of the 7" Shellshock, if you don't like the lyrics !

I'd like to reiterate that "worst" does not mean "bad." It means "least likeable." Don't worry. You're not being untrue to the band by participating in this poll.

You people must be crazy for thinking Shellshock is one of NO's worst singles. This is one of the songs that got me into them.

TBTHG? Thats one of their best IMO

A bit late and a tiny bit off-topic, but I'd just like to say that I don't understand that nobody seems to get that "State Of The Nation" is the most UNDERRATED single (or song for that matter) NO ever released. Just like a fine wine...blablabla, anyway since I'm a sucker for female backing vocals I just love the 12" Sub-Culture and Shame Of The Nation. And I don't have a problem with the album-version of Crystal also (the beginning y'know), anyway it seems a lot (and I mean a lot) of people here seem to disagree with me...cheers,
