A totally pointless thread but none the less I thought it could be thought provoking.
I was thinking "The One I Love" would make a good choice,as Hooky could play the E string guitar riff on bass. It would be interesting to hear Barney struggle with the "Fiiiiiiiiiire" lyric.
Another choice would be "Orange Crush". With its choppy guitar and Vietnam theme (which NO like).
I think the better question would be what New Order song should REM cover? I reckon Stipe and the boys could probably do a half decent version of love vigilantes.
How's about an album of Swing reinditions of NO songs...?

ive known r.e.m.get covered!!! covered in beer and whatever else from plastic bottles from the crowd when supporting u2 at milton keynes 1983. strange really because they were unknown and me and probally lots of others were out buying there albums a few years later
REM and NO are two brilliant but fundamentally different bands. I think any attempt by either group to do a cover would be dire.
And as for Turn 'sounding like REM'; that's just lazy and downright wrong. Turn is a Technique-y, bitter-sweet, classic NO track, and apart from acoustic guitars in a minor key, there is no similarity to REM that I can hear.

None is defintitely the right answer. But if they had to cover one, my vote would be for "What's the Frequency Kenneth?" It kinda rocks even with REM, and the lyrics aren't any worse than Barney's usual, either.
If NO enjoyed doing covers (which they don't), I would have to say something from REM's older days when they actually made good music. Maybe "Nightswimming", "Radiio Free Europe", or "The One I Love."
I hate to say, but Mr. Stipe is a

No, he'd probably just change it to something like "my man at home, waiting for me", it's good to mess with one's perceptions from time to time. Can't really think of a REM song that the Order would cover, but I could hear M.Stipe and Co. do a decent cover of Regret, it couldn't be any worse than their take of Born To Run.

I didnt know NO had progressed to black notes!
I don't think that New Order should cover REM. However, if for some strange reason they were forced to, I think "Losing My Religion" would be the best suited to them as it's the closest to their guitar sound.
