NewOrder story - poor quality or what

Sat down after a hard days work to enjoy New Order story on a new bright shiny digital versatile disc from the future, and what do I get?? A copy that's no better in quality than my old VHS copy. The sound quality is marginally better than my vid, but have this band and those tossers at London Records ever heard of digitally remastering?

Losing patience with this half-baked, half-arsed output.

If an old black and white TV series from the 60s - say for example The Twilght Zone, can be restored to a crisp, perfect picture, then why can't this. Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!

At least you`ve got a copy of Item:(

Havent watched mine yet but will be most annoyed if its a straight transfer from the tapes, they must have surely copied it from the master dats?

I thought that the Regret Baywatch picture looked a bit ropey on the video's dvd but still better than any version i've had up till now. You would hope they got the master off the Beeb for that before committing it to DVD wouldnt you...

On watching my vhs version a few months ago i noticed that the band have disappeared from the Baywatch beach set before the end of Regret.Have a look.Guess they were going for the leaving the sequencers running look they achieved on Temptation on Taras Shevchenko:laugh:

Well, you never know. Something unexpectedly pleasant might happen.

It's not just a straight off tape copy, it's been converted from the original PAL to NTSC, and by the looks of it, it was done using equipment from about 1975. Add to that, the fact that mst people in the UK are watching it in PAL, courtesy of on-the-fly recalculation in ther dvd player (or if they are lucky, the dvd just pukes out ntsc and their telly dumbs down it's res to match), and you get a fookin awful copy.

I always watch stuff in linux cos it displays colours in a much more pleasant way (I've demonstrated this to dozens of people and no one can say what's better, just that it is) and even with that, this is one fucking horrible piece of work.

How pissed off am I? Well I COULD have gotten item for 12 quid on play.com, since i already have Nostory, but I thought it'd ve dvd quality, not a fucking VHS rip. So I paid 13 bloody pounds T H I R T E E N QUID! for JUST this pissy pirate copy.

fuck them.

And the next person to slag factory round here get's a severe headbut, say what you like about tony h cunt, he would never sell a poor product....most of NO's factory 12"'s look like angle grinder wheels.

I guess it depends on what DVD player you have as the quality on mine is decent.

Still think its really crap sticking an NTSC DVD onto the shelves of British stores :nonono:

What do Warners/London care? We still buy the fucking things. NewOrder arent gonna attract any new fans now-its people like us that buy their CD's and DVD's. And while we keep buying, theyll happily keep feeding us Best Of's and dodgy picture disc's.

There is only one question that needs to be asked about NewOrderStory : "Who told Quincy Jones that jumper was cool?"

I second that. I recently picked up the original Factory CDs for Substance (both NO & JD), Closer, and Movement, and the quality, design, colour, feel, EVERYTHING is far superior to that crap you see in HMV.

They had style, grace, beauty, and charm. London have no fucking clue as to how to present this stuff other than present a 3rd rate shadow of what it used to be. Contrast this with the care James Nice at LTM puts in to their Factory reissues. On probably a fraction of the budget. Fuck London. Fuck them up their stupid arses.

It turned out to be a wasted journey. All the shops i looked in were selling A Collection (£15) and Neworderstory (£18) seperately. A total of £33.Wankers.I can get the fookin Item box set for half that price when it`s eventually delivered.WANKERS TOSSERS CUNTS.

Oh well, at least the trip reminded me how much i prefer to shop online .Traipsing around town centre shops is for girls. It really is.Sorry girls but I JUST DON`T DO SHOPPING!!:nono:

Gave up ,bought a newspaper and went and had a pint in Wetherspoons:thumb:

I had all sorts of nightmares about New order going to Warners.....had this vision of some suited moron with a degree in accountancy from aoltw's a+r dept, sitting in on every session and saying things like "could we maybe britneyfy it by say 5%". Apart from obvious interference in their choice of live material and how it's performed, this has not come to pass......yet somehow, the great giant has slowly but surely reduced the greatest band in the world to "product".

the only factory product i own that is not beautifully pressed [1], and finished to the highest standards in all possible ways.....is the hacienda xmas flexi (and I'm not sure that's authentic). then again, we DO keep buying them (well I avoid the compilations, 'cept retro) and that means they have no incentive to improve. besides, if it doesn't annoy the band, why should it bother us, I mean we're being stitched a few measily quid, they're having their life's art debased and cheapened.

but there must be some regulation against flogging foreign dvd's in the UK, whether it applies to those with NTSC on a R2 disc I do not know, but I am sure that floggin a region 1 in tis country is a big no no.

[1]albeit sometimes it's an amazing cut of a ropey mix...like temptation for instance.

ROFLMAO

Quincy sticks in my mind for claiming NO are the tighest band in the world. for a black geezer who's work with some of the funkiest motherfuckers on the planet.....that's a terrifying statement.

They are. When's the last time they bought anyone here a drink? :dunno:

Quincy was loaded. He's a massive alchololic and was no doubt blitzed when he heard the band. they only sound tight because Steve is a beast behind the kit and they use sequencers.

That's why all of us Americans only shop online.

He's also John Robie's fashion stylist, judging by the outfit that he is wearing on the same video.

He has a Cosby style, doesn't he? :)

First Quincy says that NO are the tightest band in the world because they work with sequensors. later he admits that he never saw them live.

So after watching this I noticed that the box says it has a 2 hour run time. My vhs copy says it has a 1 hour run time. I do not recall the Montreax jazz footage in the vhs version. What else was new?

:abovelol:

But trying to be serious for a moment, I know we have the New Order Store here, thanks to the wonderful WenOrder, and the Amazon deal, but is there a case for a club of us in each country buying up a few copies of each release for distribution? Obviously at cost price plus p&p?

Example - I bought six copies of the full sets of WFTSC on single and sent them out abroad, where they 'couldn't be had' (quoting a certain NOOL member) in return for CDRs of gigs.

I know that the 'Buy/Sell/Trade' forum is more appropriate for this, but there are enough of us to be able to get round the poor quality/non-availability of certain items. We're all chums here, so let's see what we can do! :thumb:

So for those of us who haven't got it yet. Is the content the same as the VHS copy. Is there new material?

Got the US Item today. Looks the same as my Aussie VHS copy Ronald. Like others have mentioned, watching the NTSC videos are quite a shock to the system - very very poor compared to my PAL copy on tape. This was the first time I took a gamble on buying a foreign region DVD so forgive me this dumb question...but does NTSC always look so bad or is it maybe because my DVD player is PAL by default but NTSC enabled? If that's the quality you guys in the US put up with I'm very sorry for you!

The packaging / booklet feels a bit cheap & nasty IMO.

I can recommend dvdpacific.com for anyone in Australia wanting to order it...dirt cheap and very fast.
