an end to New Order

Nah, long may they reign. While they are putting out songs like WFTSC and Turn (right up there with their best ever material IMHO), it would be downright silly to say that they have outstayed their welcome.

If they had packed it in in '89, people should be aware that this means that Regret, Crystal, Primitive notion, Who's Joe etc etc wouldn't exist - and I don't like the sound of that idea too much.

In my mind, and counting all of Joy Division days, NewOrder are absolutely, perfectly ACE from '77 to '93 ! Nevertheless, their comeback in 2001 is such a fresh surprise (in the form) + the astounding single that is 'Here to Stay' and the very good new album : that I must say : 'Dreams never end'... It's only with this present album that I think and feel for the very first time that, even though its sheer qualities, it's more of a good vintage album than any real surprise or pushing further, but you never know what they could come up with in the near future... Still, there's no one else quite like them either (except perhaps WIRE).

1989. It wasn't their peak year for me (for that I'd choose 1984 or 1985) but it saw the release Technique, their last album that didn't have any filler on it. It also saw them still changing their setlists, albeit the variation had gotten lesser. Not that they haven't made quality tunes since then, even a couple of instant classics have emerged from their instruments but there's been an increasing run-of-the-mill factor involved in NO albums post-Technique. And sure as hell I will always prefer ye olde sequencers to the backing tapes, and the often-variating setlists to the current rarely-changing ones. And pretty much everything since Technique has been but a mere footnote in their career in the public minds as well.

Well, I don't really want them to stop now either ;) but a part of me would have wanted to think of Order as a band that made very little musical missteps and sub-par (to their standards) material.

Never want them to end; but I'd choose '93 as it would've made sense with Factory collapsing and everything; although that may have been seen as ending on a low note... '89 would be the choice for ending on a high.

I voted for '81 simply because that was the last time I bought something by NO and loved it immediately - since then it's been a bit of a mould process. Admittedly, I loved Brotherhood and Perfect Kiss and Run2 and loved seeing them live a few years ago and I reckon life is just a bit better because they are still around but what the heck, vote early - cause some ripples.

How longs a piece of string? If theyre still making decent stuff let them carry on. I know ill have to run for cover after this comment but i think they should stop touring...

...Ok,theyre great live-but one day well wake up and they`ll be the Rolling Stones! Plus i think now,i would rather have another couple of albums before they call it a day more than a few good nights out.

I believe they hit a peak in 89 with Technique but don't consider this to mean that they should have packed up there and then.

Even post-peak they have created a lot of beautiful music, so for me, there is no need to prescribe an end.

I shall let them decide and hopefully enjoy what they care to throw our way in the meantime.

1985 was their peak for me, but they've put out quite a few good songs since then. 1993 would've been a subdued ending with how shit Republic is, but whatever.
