New Order rip off Wagner?

A lifetime ago I shared a flat with a cultured fellow who was seriously into classical music (from my room came the thump thump of Blue Monday, from his the sound of fat people singing opera, and from the other guy the likes of 'Stairway to Heaven' :( ).

Anyway, once I was playing Brotherhood and he reckoned part of it (I think it was 'All Day Long' - the sweeping orchestral sounding bit) was a straight rip from some Wagner thing. He played it to me and I remember thinking he was right. Anyone know anything about this? I know nothing of classical music so might be wrong, but it would be just typical of NO to crib from Hitler's favourite composer.

Yes, At the end of All Day Long, they use the start of Das Rheingold. This is the section representing the Rhine Maidens Woglinde, Wellgunde, and Flosshilde. It is also used to spectacular effect at the start of Herzog's Nosferatu Phantom der Nacht. Check it out. NO needn't worry. The piece is out of copyright. FG

Couldn't it be that the 'classical sounding' sequences are a result of certain arpeggiator presets on their Emulator?

BLT has some similar sounding riffs as well.

when i heard BLT being played on the bernard sumner songbook program it reminded me of the opening few bars of "when i ruled the world" by coldplay,i hate coldplay so if the band need to fund some lawsuits in the future they should looking into that.
