Ended up having to buy Collection & New Order Story seperate at the weekend. I can't be arsed slagging HMV anymore.

Ended up paying 11 quid for NO Story and 13 for Collection from Asda, which seems to be the going rate.

Gotta say I was more disappointed with Collection than the NO Story!

NO Story seemed to be a lot more clearer to me than the video and I thought the sound was crisper and cleaner too. Love the idea of putting subtitles up as well :evil4:

On the other hand, the videos up to 89 on collection looked fucking awful in quality, whether it's just my DVD or not, for the first 7 or 8 videos the picture was anything but clear, you could see faint lines / distortion as if they were taken from a ropey video instead of a master copy.

In fact the Substance DVD that Mike put together was clearer!

As for Ceremony and Temptation, I'm sorry, but they were fucking awful. I liked Shamberg's re-working of True Faith in 94 and that's not even available

If anyone would like to sort me out with the Item packaging though :deal:

Agree with the production quality the videos being subpar...I personally thought that the video that was done by the member on this board for Primitive Notion was superior to either of these....just wish I could remember who it was :D

I wish I could comment. Despite an email from HMV on Saturday assuring me that all their backlog would be dealt with and posted by Sunday evening, I only got my confirmation email today so I might actually have this tomorrow.

It's been a fucking shambles.

Should have ordered it from absound.ca as it would have only cost about £16 inc p&p although it would be R1.

I think the ceremony vid would have looked much better if they'd soft focussed it or something. The raw 'real life' film of it makes it look like a student project.

I think it was indeed a rush project, they didn't remaster anything from what I've seen, and they even left the production notes on most video (not bad for us, but have you ever seen a collection with this?)

But, I'm happy to have these on DVD.

I *LOVE* the production countdowns and am sure it was a very conscious decision to leave them in. The videos themselves are presented in chronological order and New Order have always had an engagement digital technology from early on; so those little bits also tell the story of the time, placing the videos into a techno-historical context. Either that or someone was lazy (haha). The thing is quite a bit of thought and effort went into the packaging so I'm not sure why they'd let it go here. I think the videos generally look great.

As for the new "Ceremony" video, it was shot on some sort of DV and certain sections look cheap to me (the pink light flashing on and off on that object?), but the vertical motion blurs are stunning.

Is the UK packaging as cheap in feel to the US Item? the booklet is very shoddy. Bizarre how the booklet and discs are mixed up in the wrong cases as mentioned elsewhere.

So is the UK version NTSC too? I was bummed that my imported copy looks so bad but if the UK version looks bad too then I guess there's not much point worrying about it. Maybe the Aussie release will get it right
