The Ceremony video is a complete embarrassment.

The Ceremony video is a complete embarrassment.
Why?
If there is one thing I'll stop to do in this world, is trying to "get" author movies, and this one was done by one of these...
As far as I know, what would make this video bad and True Faith good for instance? Pretty subjective IMHO.
Remove the live footage in True Faith and it's a video pretty close to that one, artistically (if that is the word)

For me 95% of the problem is that it's horrible quality videotape rather than film.
Yeah, the ceremony video is horrible. Thanks for ruining that song for me forever New Order! What did I ever do to you?!?
im talking about the ceremony video that has that guy walking and running around, and its where they got that cardboard box thing on the Item deal, thats a different video from i think yall are talking about, the band wasnt in the video at all

That's the one. Dreadful.

I'm amazed to read that. Really.
Mind you, I am quite drunk.
I'll read it again in the morning...
...and another thing.
To be fair, you should really compare the new Shamburg clips to ones he's done in the past. If anyone can tell me that Ceremony can hold a candle to Run, I'd be genuinely interested to hear their argument.
I can't be sure, but I think the Run video was what turned me into an obsessive NO fan. I strongly suspect that if I see that Ceremony one again, I will return my Viking badge.
The Ceremeny video is amazing! What I like:
- The urban theme
- The colors - they ARE PERFECT for the song.
- It's very J-G-Ballardian. I think the guy who taped the video would be a great camera man for a Ballard movie. I love his fascination with soulless concrete warmed up by a living life. Watch these hallways...

- The carboard box and someone inside - the idea is neat. :)
BUT there's a few bummers, too:
The director tried to make a plot - with this guy in the video - bad idea, because the video story (the guy's play) is very superficial, in the boring way. :( Either there should be a more interesting play or nothing - just landscapes and expositions of cold urban objects. :)
Please re-make it. Or, better maybe, make a new video for another New Order song - this time with no humans. EGG... ;)

Could be. The same shit. The Run video is marred by actors' "play". They should just show us the road with dead drunken people.
Videos like TF, Spooky are good because the intended play was fair. In other, most, cases it fails.

What do you think of Ruined in a Day?

Monks. Many monks.

You don't find it painful to watch?
I do. Pure pain.
I adore Ruined in a Day. I showed it to my Missus tonight...there's something about it that is ridiculous but moving at the same time. Bit like NO really.
I gotta agree that it is a very unappealing video and takes alot away from a classic new order record.
Temptation video was is a step up but they used the crappy '87 substance version which should be burned.
((((e))))
i definitely agree that the video for ceremony is an utter embarassment. the video for temptation is cute tho, very 'Amelie'-like.
Ok, but I think we must all agree that Touched By The Hand Of God was pure class. Take that, Motley Crue.

surely you've been to any american inner city?
originality = out the window, right there.
that's more or less what i said about the item cover, which i believe is a still of this vid.
I liked the image of the crate on the cover as I thought it implied 'Thinking Outside of the Box'
