What do you think the darkest (most depressing and / or soul aching song) JD song is?

I'd go for 'Passover' (then The Eternal, then Candidate).

Pretty much all of Closer for mine, 'Decades' can bring on the waterworks if the mood is right

24 Hours just shades it over Passover for bleakness, with New Dawn Fades just behind. Look at the setlist of the last ever JD gig!

The Eternal. Heavy Stuff.

I find The Eternal to be a great chill out track!

Its whole feel is like, whats the point of all this rushing around, worrying, busy busy busy?it doesn`t mean shit!.James Dean Bradfield was talking once about how he was travelling at speed in a car in Japan and The Eternal came on the radio and everything outside the window(the frantic world rushing around) just turned to slow motion and became meaningless and silly.

The darkest line i often seem to come back to is from 24 Hours - "Looked beyond the day in hand/There`s nothing there at all"

definitely all of closer

but if i had to choose...

heart & soul 24 hours atrocity exhibition

Day Of The Lords, The Eternal & New Dawn Fades.

IALP would have topped all of the above had it been professionally recorded. Not everyone on here will have the H&S boxset so they wouldnae have heard the haunting rehearsal version that was taped over (I have to put in allegedly here)

[white]:nonono: :banghead:[/white]**NONE!**EveryJoy Division song is sublimely poetic and spiritually uplifting. I grant you they may well, and often do, contain gallows houmor, but NONE, not one! Is "dark &/or depressing. "World In Motion" however would drive any sane person to distraction!

Insight for me is their darkest moment... Lyrically and musically with the 'space invader' bit, more estranged and bleaker than The Eternal, the stateliness of TE saves it from being completely bleak... What about their most positive moment? Transmission, perhaps?

'brightest' JD songs (mostly due to the guitar or keyboard, not the lyrics!):
