Off the Subject...Cabaret Voltaire

I guess this is slightly NO related (b/c of the Salvation soundtrack), but for those of you who are fans of the Cabs' work in the 1980's, I would recommend their new disc "The Original Sound of Sheffield: Best of '83 - '87." It has 10 different 12" single versions on it from that era. Having the 12" version of "I Want You" on cd is worth the price of the disc alone.

I'll have to ask Mallinder about it. He DJ's at a local club here these days.. Quite a way from Sheffield!

Couldn't agree more, I've waited for years for "I Want You" on CD. I also bought the "Conform to Deform 82-90 Archive" which came out on the same day and ther is some great stuff on there too. In the booklet Bernard Sumner (for tis he) sums up the changes since the Cabs' heyday as (from).. industrial music to industry music" and I think he's right!

I'll probably get it for the completist part of my nature, as I'm sure I'll have every track on it.

And I was right, then I downloaded what I think is the Cabs finest moment (at least from what ive heard) Sex, Money, Freaks. I have 2 albums of theirs on cd, code, Microphonies as well as a BBC Radio sessions one 84-86.

But that newie seems like a good one to check out, can we get it in Australia?

There is a bit of direct connection between CV and NO. The first New Order demo in July 1980 was recorded at the CV studio Western Works in Sheffield.
