Songs that COULD have been singles...

Nice! What a great understanding of what used to be, back in the old days, the "b side." I remember when I was a kid, dusting off the old Victrola and actually flipping over the record. Of course, the B-side was usually just the most suckworthy track off the album.

By the way, according to the discography on niagara.edu, both Weirdo and Mr. Disco were released on promo discs with other tracks from other bands, perhaps to generate a "buzz" with radio programmers and test the waters for a single release.

The point was that PCL was a complete, finished piece of art that did not include BM. It's like saying that the Mona Lisa would be improved by adding a bit more dress or background, it doesn't work. PCL, the piece of art, does not include BM. PCL, the sell-out cash-in, does include BM. That's the difference and that's why NO are not as special as they were from 1980-1984.

I resent buying singles that I've already got on an album (remixes do not, in my opinion, count as new songs). I think it's a rip-off to buy a single unless it has at least 2 unique songs (the old a & b side format).

I think everyone would agree that NO are not as special as they once were.

As far as buying singles that you already have on an album, isn't the obvious solution not to buy them?

Exactly why I did stop buying New Order singles but I still miss the days when each and every New Order release was a self-contained unit that was worth getting.

I think I'm much more persuaded by the esthetic argument than I am by the business of not ripping off fans.

I always wonder what PCL would sound like in its original form, minus BM (but I'm too lazy to just skip over it, so I'll never know)

Seriously, it was unfathomable to me that they wouldn't have featured BM on PCL, but after reading that BM actually was released first it makes sense to keep it seperate. Repitition kills music.

PCL does suffer with BM included.

Your Silent Face would have been a great single. Perhaps coupled with Love Vig for the "Melodica EP"
